Spices / Re: Chalis Hot & Mild Curry Oils

Quoteknow this thread is about chalice oil,  not Asda, so please forgive me for posting all these Asda links but I just laughed out loud when I saw this product page for a sack of 4kg onions. Check out the "we think you will also like" link below it...! Must be a lot of wannabe BIR chefs buying their onions at Asda!

I think it's funny cos thats the last bag of onions that I bought at asda for ?1.67 haha. ;D ;D ;D

Hi Natterjak
The bottle I bought was by KTC and is labelled as pure mustard oil and was in the world food / ethnic section of the Aisle next to all the Indian spices (KTC do the creamed coconut block as well). It doesn't appear to be on the ASDA website and to be honest I wouldn't advise giving any other oil a try if it's not from the food section.

Just stocked up on one each of these oils to give them a go. Fortunately I work next to an asda megastore so they were in stock. Also bought some mustard oil whilst there to give curry2go's chicken marinade a whirl :P

Lets Talk Curry / Gutted
December 04, 2011, 12:50 AM
I have earlier finished making what i hoped to be was my ultimate curry (jalfrezi). It looked and provisionally tasted like everything i wanted it to be. But because of cooking it and spice overload i decided to wait until i went for for a few jars before i tucked into it. I have now come back and am gutted because my taste buds just arent up for it despite my mind saying jump in both feet. I know its superb but am well miffed that the sensations i think im craving arent there :( anybody else know these symptoms, sniff :'(

QuoteCommon catering sized curry powders are East End, KTC & Rajah
My local Asian supermarket has all those brands as well but also has a brand called "Heera" and has many different spices and a Madras curry powder by them. Has anybody come across them before?

Hi esselle, are you thinking of chicken tikka massala!, I'm a jalfrezi man myself :P

Lets Talk Curry / Re: onion powder

I would suggest onion granules would be fine and if a little too large for the recipe, using a pestle and mortar would powder them ;)
