Talk About Anything Other Than Curry / Re: .
December 31, 2017, 09:48 PM
There must be a bug in the forum software!  It appears littlechilie was able to start a new topic with no subject heading and zero content. Go figure, unless any of you can see more than I can. Where's the moderator, to delete this blank thread?

I am sure cro started going down hill once george had given up his moderator roll,i am sure at least a couple of people who wanted to see the back of him never or very rarely posted again, bring back george i say at least he did care about the forum, members are hoping the forum is not going to die but still dont post, well if you dont post it will die, perhaps the moderator needs to post some interesting topics himself to get people interested and a reason to post,i for one take a look at that days posts and if there are none or nothing i am interested in then i move on, i think the more posts and topics there are then the more new and old members will post,if you want to save the forum post more dont just watch it die and say what a shame.

Thank you for your kind words. Yes, i was forced out by a bunch of online bullies and trouble makers., some of whom appeared to reform once their mission was complete. They succeeded in kicking up such a fuss that Admin thought it was a majority view and asked me to stand down, in favour of curry hell who was chomping at the bit to take over.  I tried to generate a bit of interest recently by starting a thread about dishes we've failed to crack. The thread failed. Either everybody no longer has any dishes left to crack or the lethargy is so bad, they can't be bothered to talk about it,. Another idea of mine was to attempt to go back to the good old days by somehow starting a few arguments, Those threads always seemed to attract record viewing figures.

T63 - It's a fair suggestion but I'm far from sure it's what the forum needs, I've always considered that traditional dishes cane be superior to the peculiar variations found in British curry houses. But that's not the point, The focus of this forum is the latter,. If we move over to a greater consideration of traditional dishes, then we risk losing the distinctive edge, There are many, many sites looking at traditional dishes, so how can we compete?

I'd vote against any expansion of the traditional section of the forum, just like I'd be against special sections for, say, pizza making or KFC recipes, even though it['s good to consider such topics under the 'anything else' section.

If you are luckiy enough to have access to a Le Creuset outlet shop, they are knocking out a bright red 6.7 litre / 7.25 US quart casserole at less than half price,

Someone made the sensible suggestion that one reason for some members losing interest in this forum could be if they can make all the dishes they are interested in. That's xertainly not the case for me, Partly out of laziness - failing to put enough effort into my research - I still can't make at least two dishes which were on my priority list as long as 15 years ago. These are:

1.. The vegetable sauce which nearly always accompanies birianis in the UK. I sometimes think it's litle more than base sauce with a few vegetables thrown in, but I can't achieve a flavour as good as most restaurants,

2. Dry style saag aloo which tastes divine even though there's hardly any sign of oil, let alone base sauce.

Can anyone point me to recipes here or elsewhere which could lead me to ticking off these two dishes?

Which dishes do you find most frustrating?

After looking at the link provided by DalPuri, I did a google search using the words 'forum decline'. It seems we;'re not alone in fearing facebook may take over. But, like me, at least some people can't see how the structure and way of working of facebook is any substitute for a forum like this,

So I suggest we all put in enough effort to keep the curry-recipes forum alive and worthwhile.

I know of at least three other forums which have closed down in recent years, with the loss of a mass of worthwhile contributions and photos. The first should be familiar to many people - friendsreunited. So worthwhile - how can that have failed? The owner of the second one actually mentioned facebook and twitter as a reason for shutting down the forum. Not good,

it is the powder that my mother used to use and the flavour is still consistent with my early memory.

Interesting point. I wonder if some of our first taste experiences become our sort of 'best ever' reference points, I still make a cake which my Mum used to bake for birthdays. I've never tasted anything better. Then, in my late teens I tasted my first BIR curries and KFC, We all talk about declining taste standards over the past few decades. Maybe it's simply that the first taste experiences are unbeatable.

I actually know several forum members personally and the reason they stopped using the site was because they were more satisfied with the similarly themed Facebook pages instead.  .

I don't know much about Facebook but can it possibly act as a platform for so many different discussions across a wide range of useful categories as on this forum and similar places? If so, how does it work?

I would be interested to learn roughly what fraction of CR0 members habitually use mix powder, and what fraction prefer to use individual spices.

I never use so-called mix powder. I found I achieve better results from alternative approaches,.
