Nice set of pictures mate.  I too made this base yesterday and was very pleased with the results.  Very tasty base on by itself :P.  Used it with Razors rogan josh recipe - fabulous ;D.  Will be interesting to hear the results of your side by side comparison. I have a similar experiment planned myelf with a couple of bases. ::)

Well I did it! I made the Taz Base Mix, Joshallen's Madras recipe and used Razor's
It was bang on! Really really enjoyed, best curry I've ever made  ;D

I've made gallons of base mix so am keen to try out and few different recipes with it, might go for a madras next time. Thanks for all the hints and tips guys, very much appreciated.

And probably the best curry you've tasted in over three years no doubt ;D ;D ;D.  Glad your first outing was a sucess, not that there was any doubt when using recipes from this forum ;).   Will be good to hear how your madras goes.  A pic or two is always appreciated ::)

Hey CH,

Looks wonderful, so glad that you liked it.  It certainly looks the same colour that I get.  I add a few fresh chillis in mine now, just to get it to the "Jal Frezi" type heat.

Many many thanks for giving it a go mate, much appreciated.

Ray :)

My pleasure Ray.  It made a pleasant change from eating my normal gunpowder strength curries  :o.  Thanks for posting your recipe.  I'll add that one to the repertoire.  Sure i'll find a guinea pig to try it on and i doubt they'll be disappointed ;D.  Maybe i should expand on my eating experience a little more.  Not that i haven't tasted and cooked many curries over the years, but I just seem to like those that take the roof of your mouth off ;).

What can i say?  Yum, yum :P.  Will definitely cook it again.  Maybe up the heat content to suit myself but as per recipe, very nice Ray.  Here's the pics ;D.

That's a fine looking curry Ramirez :P.  I must give Ray's recipe a go.  It's getting glowing reports.  Never had RJ myself either so it'll be a new experience :D

Well I've just finished cooking it.  So that i get the benefit of the flavours I'm off out for a couple of beers and it's Rogan Josh for supper with special fried rice when i return.  Of course I've had a taste and I've got to say it's a damn fine tasting curry :P.  Am almost tempted to try one from my local BIR just to compare ;D.  Nice balance of flavours with no one thing prominent, the peppers, onions and tomatoes working well together.  The spicing is medium with the corriander / chili paste is in background (what a find that is - ideal as something to spread on my poppadums).  And made with CT's base which is very pleasant to eat on its own ::).  Will post pics of my efforts later.  Nice one Ray.

Chewy's base is currently on the stove. Hour in and the onions are softening but am going to give them another hour until my knife goes through them like a hot knife through butter :). So two hours plus half an hour with spice and tom paste followed by blending and sieving  :( then back on for another half hour till the oil separates.  That's three hours without the faffing in between.  I hope this turns out to be worth it :-\.  Then all i have to do is decide what's for supper tonight ;D.  Very tempted to give your RJ a go Ray, or could it be a CA phall or should i experiment some more with my North Indian Special?  Decisions, decisions ::).  This curry making lark is all go ;D

Ok, what I will do, is go back to my base, leave the onions whole and boil them for my usual length of time.  I will try to cut them with a spoon, and if they don't cut like a hot knife through butter, I will continue to boil until they do.

If I don't get the sweetness that I get with Chewys base, then it's back to the old drawing board I'm afraid :(

Ray :)

I can't wait to hear the results too.  Hopefully, we'll have an idea as whether boiling the onion whole does in fact make a sweeter base.  If other too try this with their usual base the results will be a bit more conclusive.  I'll leave it to others more clever than I to explain the reason why if the tests prove positive  ;D.  I'll simply take it as a rule of thumb.  I'm making CT's base today so i'll post my comments a bit later on.
