Thanks fellas. I am glad that the food was acceptable

It was far more than "acceptable" Mick!  It was really, really, good!   8)

QuoteIt was great to briefly meet you both. Apologies for not really being "with it" I was very tired after a very busy saturday and Friday. I'd been working 14 hours per day for those two days. I'm not complaining though....i love it. :)

I wish you had made us aware of who you were first though

We realised you'd be busy and we thought it might be a little unfair of us to "worry" you by announcing our intended visit beforehand!

QuoteMy night off is Tuesday, so if you fancy meeting up for a curry or beer or both somewhere

I (I am sure "we") will certainly take you up on that!  It's really great to see someone, who is a member of this forum, actually give it a go and try and make something of it!  8)

QuoteThanks for trying us out, and hopefully see you both soon

Thanks to you too.  I am sure that you will see us many more times in the future (poor you!)!  :P

Glad you liked the naan

And the rest!  It was all really, really, good, thanks!  8)

So where do you get your wine from CA

As far as I can tell, it's totally irrelevant to BIR curries MT?

No sorry CA.

Then, you are doing it for yourself, and not for "you guys".

And CT is correct, you REALLY should change the foot note to your avatar  ::)

It has always amazed me how popular these "off-topic" threads are!

Perhaps some people have nothing better to talk about or to contribute?  :o

sorry i have not been here.
I am working flat out here to get this book out to you guys

Does that mean that it will be available, to our forum members, for free, then Chris?

Review of "Aussie Mick's" British Indian 2 Go Restaurant - Kingsley, Perth:

So, "Willyekerslike" (who has just emigrated to Perth  8)) and I finanally travelled to "Norf of the River" to try out Aussie Mick's recently opened British Indian restaurant and to hopefully meet the man himself.

We had poppadoms (with various dips) for starters, followed by Chicken Tikka Vindaloo, Chicken Jalfrezi, Pilau rice, Keema Naan and Peshwari Naan.

Here are some photos (sorry about the quality, they don't really do the meal justice...and we were far too busy scoffing the curries, to worry too much about taking photos!):

The "Meal for Two" (minus one of the Pilau Rices...and a few other items that we'd already eaten!):

Chicken Jalfrezi:

Chicken Tikka Vindaloo:

Pilau Rice:

Everything was very enjoyable indeed!   8)

The Naans were great, with a good amount of tasty filling.  The Pilau Rice was nice, fluffy and delicately flavoured (with very generous helpings, too boot!).  The Chicken Tikka Vindaloo was nice and tasty with a good (I would say "right") amount of "bite" for a Vindaloo.  The Chicken Tikka was nice and succulent and delicately flavoured.  The sauce was a great texture and flavour.  The same was true of the Chicken Jalfrezi.

I (we) thouroughly enjoyed all of the dishes and certainly would be more than happy to be served them in any British Indian Restaurant.  We will certainly be paying more visits to sample Mick's other curries.

We didn't divulge our identities until after the meal.  Of course, Mick was nowhere to be seen, because he was busy churning out dishes in the kitchen.

Wendy (Mick's wife) and her restaurant staff were delightful, happy, smiley, polite and attentive.  But Wendy did seem to panic a little when we finally asked "where's Mick?" and revealed to her how we knew of him!  :P

We did get to meet Mick, Raj and others of Mick's team (in his kitchen) and quickly exchanged pleasantries.  I hope we didn't embarrass him too much!  Hopefully we will find more time, for a more detailed chat, on a future visit.

Needless to say, Mick and his team are doing themselves (and himself) proud!   8)

Well done Mick (and all of your team)!  Thanks for the great meal...and keep up the great work!  8)

If you are ever in the area, give it a go, I doubt you'll be disappointed!  :)

Sounds about as pretentious as your preferred starters CW  ;)

Quote from: CTbut these three do it for me at the moment.

Malai Tikka Haryali

Shahi Murgh Paneer

Rajasthani Lamb Chop

And NOT ONE of them rings any sort of bell with me, regarding "typical BIR starters of old"! (no doubt, of course, due to me being alienated in the Antipodes, not having a good understanding of Bengali, and not having experienced BIR curries for such a long while  ::))

Quote from: CTBut I could add at least another 30

Of course you could...and maybe some that others' might know and relate to  ::)

Here's mine ("of old"):

  • poppadoms and side dips
  • chicken tikka and mint raitha
  • onion bhajis plus mint raitha
  • tandoori mixed grill (ooops, sorry, that's 4!)

Sorry Colin, had some frustrations with adding the photos  :P

To answer your question, I (being "creative"!) added 3 tsp of chili powder AND about 1 tbsp of minced, fresh, Trinidad Scorpion chillies....'cos I wanted to knock me socks off!  :P
