I hope this thread is seen as a friendly debate.
On the whole, it seems like that. I did think that comment right at the start of the thread was a little 'off' though (the "so-who-said-this-was-about-BIR-only") one :)

OK. Just for the record then, yes - if you include Pakistan (and that includes in hotels and not in hotels). I'd have also thought that having Sikh and Hindu friends, and knowing how they cook, also counts for some experience in this field. I've never seen a 'gravy' or 'sauce' in this context at all.

Thus, speaking personally, I do feel qualified to comment ;)

True, but if someone walked into your front room and said "Huh! Who said this is YOUR house, then?" when you challenged them it would be hard to treat them as magnanimously as all that ;)

That's how it came across to me, as well. Not so much the first, but certainly the second post.

Also, going in at 50L is a bit rash if you're 'new'.

What if it isn't right?

They don't do sauces out in the villages - it would be a waste of time. And those are the 'authentic' dishes.

I always look to Madhur Jaffrey (or even Floyd on India) for examples of authentic recipes because they involve the locals - I've never seen a sauce or gravy in her (his) programmes :)

It might not be called that, but that's what it is about ::)

If you think or expect otherwise you ARE on the wrong forum.

lets do it right!
Nothing wrong with that - from time to time.

But the whole point on here is to be able to duplicate the curry house taste at home. No claims to the contrary.

What about dried cow dung free and planet friendly?
Somehow, I suspect the food standards people might not be too happy about establishments cooking food and handling cow poo in the same room :)

And knowing people over here, it'd probably cost a fiver a bag from the local garage ;)

Well, the 'exploding' thing just refers to the fact that anything made of clay, and which is hot, will crack up if it gets wet. Quite dramatically if it is VERY hot. And, of course, not many people are going to install a charcoal tandoor in their house so rain becomes a big issue over here :)

This one only costs ?130:

I quite like this one someone made out of cement. Now that might stand up to the British weather. After all, if few people are going to install a charcoal tandoor inside their house, even fewer will do it if it looks like this  :o
