Might give that a whirl. I've been buying various Pakistani brands from Asian supermarkets. I'm using Laila aged basmati at the mo but using the absorbtion method and minimal water I still end up with porridge. I find some brands are like this, others are fine.

Have you ever seen Julian Voigt's method? I only ask and I know this is off the topic a bit, but I use Laila aged basmati and his method using a pressure cooker gives perfect results IMO. It's in his first ebook so I better not post the method but it works well with Laila rice. I have always had problems with the absorption method and basmati rice. I don't even wash it.

SoberRat,

The Kenwood tri-blade 700w works for me,
worth every penny.

A found it a good compromise between quality and price.

Over the years I have used cheaper blenders and they failed and were inefficient.

I would give this Kenwood tri-blade 8/10 (for a home blender)
for power, noise and efficiency.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that, it was one that I am looking at, I agree about the price, it seems to be good value.

Have you had the silvercrest for long?

Receipt (sellotaped to the box) says 29th November 2012.
** Phil.

That is going well for the money then. I think even if I do get an expensive one I will get one of these when they come up again anyway.

The best I've ever seen are the Bamix ones. Seen them demo'd at the NEC a couple of times. They look the dogs doo dahs and very versatile too. There's only one reason I don't own one tho...???s..but I've bowed to one day treat myself.

I have seen that the Bamix is good but I was a bit puzzled by the low wattage (160w) in comparison with others. My parents own one and they have said that it is good but they don't blend many base gravies.

Sounds like it might be a good idea to wait for it to come around again and continue to swear at my current 150w one. Blending is a bit like watching paint dry at the moment but I have to say I'm amazed it hasn't gone into meltdown. Have you had the silvercrest for long?

Very good jars and well-stocked spice cupboard. ;)  If a little OCD  :D

Yeah, it is a bit isn't it. I do have a shed a bit like yours though which sort of balances that out. The missus wasn't impressed with me taking a whole cupboard up just for my BIR stuff, but throw the odd Korma out to keep the peace.

Hi Phil, thanks for the reply. I did read about the SilverCrest blenders somewhere here but when I do a search for them it says the offer is finished. I did look in my local Lidl and they had nothing in there either. I could use my Magimix but I would have to do it in several batches, and I'm a bit lazy when it comes to washing up and so find a hand blender easier. Also I use the Magimix for anything other than curries.

Hello everyone. I am looking to get a new hand blender and I am wondering what everyone out there uses and how satisfied you are with them. I am hoping to make a purchase based on long term opinions of the variety of blenders that are available. I will be using it to mainly blend up my bases.

Thanks

Rob
