Cooking Equipment / Re: Hand blenders

Made some more base with the silvercrest blender and I have to say that it is so much better. I sieve my base and this time the ball of debris was a quarter of the size of my last lot. This means there is less flavour being thrown away IMO. Bargain price for this blender.

Totally agree with CT. This is not helping at all and it stops me going on this site as there is much less curry talk going on. I made a mild dhansak today so that the Mrs could try my recipe, so yes, I did cook a curry. Am I going off topic talking about curry?

I have started using Rajah and TRS curry powder in the mix powder that I knock up, as they both bring something that is subtly different.

You're welcome. Look forward to seeing the pics. On reflection of the one I made the other day I think the original recipe is what I will stick to too. :o

I'm for mixed powder. I find it amazing how you can use the same powder for many recipes and yet they all manage to be different when you add other spices in addition to the mixed powder. I haven't found that much difference with most 'standard' mixes when used in identical recipes though, it's very subtle. That's my opinion. I have tried several on this site including Abdul 8 spice, JB's and CT's and despite these all being fairly different in the ingredients they have only had a small impact on the final dish when all the other ingredients are the same. I have tried several bases and I find they have a bigger impact.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The last lot that I done were the lentils I used in that curry and that was OK. I don't do much with them just 1.5 times the amount of water to lentils. They do tend to have a fair bit of debris in so make sure you give 'em a good wash.

Lovely looking curry SR.....the texture looks amazing. Not that I've ever made a Dhansak but I really fancy trying it. What recipe did you use?
Hi Garp. I used my own recipe found here https://curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php/topic,13673.0.html with slight changes. I tried 0.25 tsp of garlic powder in with the rest of the spices, I used tikka instead of normal chicken and 2 TBS of pineapple juice as opposed to 2 tsp. I don't know how you guessed, but it is Carling.

Looking good mate, never really tried Dhansak but maybe I should
Your mrs must be a fast eater  ;)
Yeah, the wife had a day working in London so she was pretty hungry, I was busy cooking the Dhansak. Time I had finished that the Korma had disappeared.

Here are some photos of my dinner tonight. Chicken tikka dhansak with pilau rice. Very nice indeed. The Mrs had her usual Korma, but she'd eaten it before I could take a picture.
