Pictures of Your Curries / Re: CA's Chicken Vindaloo

I cooked this up for a mate last week using the "Everest" coarse chilli powder. It was a tad too hot for me, but my mate licked the bowl clean. Very tasty curry CA.

I used to go in the Brown Cow every Sunday afternoon with the family.
I grew up in the same maisonettes. Moved to "posh" Gorton about 1986 when they were taking the tops off, and never returned to the Platting.
We drove through Miles Platting 3 years ago when we were back for a holiday............wow what a sh1tehole.

Hi Jason
Another Manc here, but I now live down under. Originally from Miles Platting, and I used to frequent the "curry Mile" regularly.
Happy cooking mate

Trainee Chefs / Beginners Questions / Re: How easy to butcher raw leg of lamb?
September 13, 2012, 06:24 PM
Hi NJ
I thought the same as you when I saw lamb cheap at our local shop.
I bought one lamb leg and set about cutting off as much meat as possible for pre-cooking and freezing, and I must say, i might a pretty rubbish job of it...........but, I did harness enough meat for 2-3 curries.
Next time I tried, I got better, and better etc, so it IS worth doing. Just as a tip, when you pre-cook lamb meat, it will shrink, so cut larger chunks than you would do for chicken....and it doesn't matter too much if you get bits of fat on the meat as once pre-cooked, you will hardly notice.
GOOD LUCK!

Lets Talk Curry / Curry2Go Achari Gosht
September 10, 2012, 03:06 AM
Can't believe it's took me so long to get around to trying this. I've had the recipe printed out and on my 'to do" list for ages.
We had friends round for curry yesterday. I didn't have any peppers or tomatoes in the fridge, and I couldn't be bothered going shopping, so it had to be curry without these two ingredients.
CA's vindaloo was a winner as always along with CTM phall. But my favourite was the Achari Gosht. Very quick and easy to make, I'll definitely be having this on a regular basis.
Anyone else tried this?

Lets Talk Curry / Re: "Old School" Taste, Alive and Kicking

Funnily enough Phil, a lot of Indians used Carnation milk in their tea as well. I'm a plumber, and I've worked in houses where I was offered a cup of tea, and in Asian households, it was always made with Carnation milkback in the 80's. I say that as most people don't even offer a cuppa these days.
** Phil.
Me too Phil...it's just common courtesy as far as I'm concerned.
Sadly, these days people are too busy or just can't be bothered.
