Lets Talk Curry / Re: BIR rice colouring
May 17, 2010, 08:55 AM
Hi Jerry ;)

I'd assumed it was all part of the "no colourings no preservatives healthy choice" kick as most of the top notch places stopped doing it first and it kinda spread to all takeaways. The only places I've seen it sold for a while is in supermarkets in tubs :\ Similarly the majority seem to have stopped using the red colouring in madrases and vindaloos prefering the natural coloured curries, the only ones still using it are of the Malik's crap quality T/A's where they seem to think that colour = flavour. I thought it was the same all over but apparently not lol.

crikey if they fight like they're namesakes you can definitely keep 'em! :o

pmsl that must be a side-effect of the spinach then 'cos there's been no use for corks in our house this week lol

I take it you'll not be giving the sprout bhajis a try out then, BB? ;D

We've not had that three coloured rice served anywhere for years, BB...they just don't seem to do it anymore round our way. TBH the red in the malik's rice looks to stand out a bit but theirs will be mixed into a far bigger batch of plain rice....maybe it gets rubbed off a bit lol

**EDIT** after doing a bit of searching, some say to add the colouring to the rice water as it's cooking which would lessen the effect rather than adding it after cooking.... :-\

ahhhh, 1 kid! Blisss!!  ;D

The vegan doughnuts turned out the same. I only used 1 x 7g pack of yeast and slightly reduced the other ingredients. Used rice milk and soy butter, and mixed the yeast in with the milk (as opposed to water) and a little sugar and flour.

Top stuff! I really need to lay off the doughnuts for a while though, we've eaten 45 between us this weekend, lol  :o

lol we've got 2 kids but only one of them's ours ;) we nicked the other one nearly 11 year ago ;D 45 gone in a few days? I'll send you my two and they'll help the ratio a bit ;D I swore I'm not making another lot for a few months or I'll have to buy a bigger car to get me jacksy in lol back to the fresh fruit salads for a week or two I reckon ;D though I've already promised to do a sticky toffee pud this week...'Ere, you've not got a treadmill I can borrow have you, nai? :P

I've found  much to my chagrin that curries as red as that CTM unfortunately leave my backside a similar hue the next day - and it aint down to the food colouring either :o :(

Aye but the hairy bikers and BT & JM make a living out of it :P I meant your everyday average joes ;D Anytime you get a group of blokes together the talk always gets round to footie and curries and never melting moments... ???

I'm always impressed by men cooking and even more so if they do the washing up afterwards ;D but then again 'im indoors can't cook for toffee lol so maybe I'm biased in some way? :P

Good luck with that Nai ;) You never know, they might turn out better than the non-vegan variety :) I'm jealous of the 4 kids too, only managed to get one of our own. :)
