Look at the plate of chopped green chillies (and ginger) at the second place. This is pure class!

Braised liver and onions. Creamed potatoes, peas and gravy. No bread & butter.

Lol, you forgot the large flat cap mushroom Rob.

And a fried egg. Although, now we are well on the way to a mixed grill :)

Another classic dish from memory lane. Grilled gammon, served with a tinned pineapple ring on top. A single grilled tomato cut in two. Chips and garden peas. White bread and butter. Salt and vinegar on the chips. I learned how to make my first chip butty with this one.

Had a couple of Kashmiri lamb chops as a starter myself last night.

Lots of good stuff going on in that kitchen. Initially I thought it may be going down the Dishoom path but I believe it is trying to elevate the BIR curry to a higher level, after years of dumbing down it is something desperately needed.

If I had one near to me I would definitely give it a go.

Both places are local for me. Harborne menu looks a bit over the top. Contemplated the chicken curry with samphire fries in Hall Green. However, it's just up the road from the Balti Triangle. So I would be driving past the Shahi Nan Kebab on Stratford Road. Knowing me I would be straight in there for a balti instead. M&S have samphire. £2.20 for 90g. Never tried it. Sounds like it would be good with masala fish.

Nice kitchen though and the food looks great. "Hotel" style cooking, I guess.

Here are the menus. Two branches. Not cheap. £4 for chips. The TA link has pictures of most things. I am seeing some good ideas for presentation. The Harborne branch has a more extensive (and expensive) menu. I think we should send someone to check it out. Goat biryani for you Phil?

I hope it is as good as he says.  I've just made a full batch, to specifications, Tomato Paste and pre-cook Chicken (thigh and breast in 2 separate batches).  I've just cooked 5 different curries and not tasted a thing in the process.  Just followed the instructions and cooked it, which is normally against every bone in my body.  Anyhow, we are 30 minutes away from giving it all a try out.

Hope it went well livo. Can you remember?

This place is grim. £10 for two lamb chops! And one needs binning.
