I personally thought Chewys Madras was alright but have now been tweeking a few different recipes and found my personal fave which for me is spot on and has great results every week when I make it :)

I am not an expert but get the right heat for me if I add my fresh pureed chilli with the onion at the beginning and then the powder I do with all the powders after the garlic/ginger but before the tomato :)

I had mad so much curry Friday night that I had 3 portions left and had made fresh base today and wanted to give it a whirl so made a chicken Vindaloo to have a bit on the side ohhh errr  :P

I get the 1kg bags from Aldi or tesco for the base.They are about 70-80 pence. I use 3kg in the base :)

Looks lovely Garp. I gotta branch out. Got the madras spot on now. Every Fri or Sat I have to make a mild, normal and extra hot Madras with pilau, sides and Naan and deliver to family.
It's lots of work but I love it! Love the process of all the prep but I am very grateful to have a dishwasher  :D
