Yes you can make curry powder easily.

From memory it's equal parts of cumin, cardamom, mustard seed, turmeric, fennel and coriander seeds, roasted and ground.  :)

Yes they are different things, in fact many mix powdersactually contain a bit of curry powder too. CA's mix powder is nice.
