If it was a technical hitch then ok, but it does beg the question and god forbid, what if something ever happened to Stew? All this hard work by so many over the years would be lost.......

On another note, Phil, I also totally agree with you about distributing an e-mail list of those who regularly post to this forum so if/should this website ever collapse through one reason or another, hopefully we as a team would be able to resurrect it to some degree.

Let me know what you all think on this please....

That is a worrying thought and one I have had also. To lose all of this would be awful. To some extent, amongst other things, it comes back to the lack of a moderation team, I think. People that can escalate things when something goes wrong.

Let's see what Stew says. I think quite a few would be happy to chip in if money is an issue.

Welcome back cr0, thought I had been evicted for a while there ;D
Panicking as one does when CR0 goes off the air, I realised that most of us have no way of re-establishing contact with each other in the event of CR0 disappearing for ever.  Would there be any interest in exchanging e-mail addresses via PM ?

** Phil.

Completely agree - felt the same thing. A contact email for Stew wouldn't go amiss as well. I tried  a 'whois'  lookup, but registrant details are hidden. Happy to exchange emails.

Was having palpitations for a minute there.  ;D

It is still very slow, though.

Nice one Stephen - always good to hear feedback on how people get on.

Judging by your pictures, you did reduce it far enough, so I think you did okay there.

A couple of things jump out in terms of where you could improve:

  • It seems you deviated quite heavily from Mick's recipe. Experimentation is always good, but it may have been beneficial to adhere to Mick's recipe strictly.
  • Substituting the spice mix for Asda's spice blend would have had a very detrimental impact on the curry. Spice mixes can be found in here: https://curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php?board=28.0
  • I would strongly recommend buying spices from either an Asian grocer, spicesofindia.co.uk or from the Asian section of supermarkets.

Looks lovely UF. Nice one.

Regarding the CTM - what I couldn't work out was whether I was tasting the tomato soup because I knew it was there, or whether I could actually taste the soup. The recipe scored well for me in the group test, but I am going to give 976bar modifications a go.

Good to hear it went well. Pics could go in this thread or you could create a new thread in here: https://curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php?board=10.0

Both would be acceptable.

Hi Unclefrank,

I also make this Tikka Masala recipe, but I also add 6 tbsp coconut milk powder (maggi) and also mix that with 200 ml of single cream and I put the almond powder in with that too, whisk it until you get a smooth paste, then add it after you've added the base sauce, mix it in thoroughly and you end up with a super fine creamy Tikka Masala sauce.

One of the minor complaints I had with Lorrydoo's CTM (I've not mentioned it before, as I wanted to wait until the CTM Group Test results were published) was the taste of tomato soup came through a little too much. Do you think the modifications you make mask the taste of the tomato soup a little better, 976bar?

Great pics curryhell!

I really enjoyed Solar's recipe when I did the group test. It's unlike Bombay Aloo I usually have, but it has a great taste in its own right.

:D Thanks Ramirez. And there lies the last 5% we're all looking for mate which i think we'll never all agree on :-\.  There are obviously regional differences up and down the country of which some will be quite considerable. We are all trying to emulate dishes that we are familiar with through personal experience and all our experiences are different.  For me Solarsplace's bombay aloo and Dips for that matter are very close to what i'd expect in my neck of the woods.  Maybe i clouded the issue by precooking the spuds.  Next time i won't just to see what difference it makes but i'm sure it'll be quite a marked difference in taste.  Out of interest which recipe was the closest to what you would expect from a bombay aloo??

If I recall correctly, it was the Undercover Bombay that I felt was the most authentic. Unfortunately, the result categories don't include something for 'authenticity', although it has been spoken of. Taste doesn't quite fit the bill, as something can taste great, but not be authentic.

They were all good dishes though and I enjoyed each and every one of them.

Looks fantastic unclefrank!  :D BBQ looks really good - seems like a good price as well.

What are the two curries on the top shelf? Post pics of the steak as well.  ;)
