My favorite local BIR uses it in their Tindalloo, absolutely no Chilli aftertaste in any of their hot dishes & no trace of Chillies Pureed or otherwise, i think i & a few others broached this subject about a year or so ago.
I only have come across the one Bir that uses concentrate.

I leave all the large whole Spices in right until i serve, then take them out before pouring the curry over it, it's much easier than bitting down on them & wishing you had took them out before serving. ;D

It will give you a good idea on Star anise amounts i use, but it is all down to personal taste with this powerfull Spice (just like the Darkside, muhahahhaaaaa). ;D
