Be careful with orders from dadhibais. They add unreasonable p&p charges to the bill and calculate the vat on top of the carriage costs.
Sorry I don't think that is really fair, they are catering industry suppliers, hence the one off postage including the vat works out pretty cheap if you are buying several items.
They are not really for the general public buying just one pan.

Not sure if the prices are comparable, and obviously not as much choice, but if you are also buying other spices etc., might be worth having a look here

Search for whole chillies.

The kasmiris are on offer at the moment too.

Hi Martin, the plant in the vid with the flower is one of two plants, the other is on the window sill. The one on the widow sill has 2 tiny buds, the one in the vid as 15  :)
It has not cost that much  ::) compared to the fun i am having.
I would love to grow some other types of chillies, if anybody whats to send me any seeds  ;)
As for growing Cannabis, i like my freedom to much.
Hi Chris
Wasn't for a minute suggesting you grow cannabis, just pointing out the cost effectiveness of said grows compared to a few 'ordinary' chilli plants.. ;)

Obviously at the moment, with this awful weather, your windowsill ones won't be doing as well as the ones under your lights, but will as the season progresses.
Yes, it is fun growing them, I was just trying to say that your set up, IMHO, would be put to much better use growing the more expensive, exotic and harder to grow in our climate types of chillies.

You can always get some from here (personally recommended) for good prices and cheap postage.

Some good info on there too re the Bhut Jolokia growing.

Hi Chris

Nice set up.

When you are a bit more experienced at this, are you planning on growing the more expensive, harder to grow types of chillies?
Only at the moment it doesn't seem a very economical way (with electricity, cost of all the kit, nutrients etc.) of growing them if they are pretty much bog standard chillies.
IMHO they would grow just as well on a sunny windowsill/outside or would even probably be cheaper to just buy them.

As someone mentioned, Cannabis grown in this way would pay for itself and said equipment pretty quickly, especially as I believe it costs about ?20 for about 3 grams these days.

Hey Chris

Did you ever taste the onion solids left over from making your spiced oil?

Only asking because it is almost the same ingredients as bunjarra/onion paste, of which the excess oil from it is great to use.

I've blended and sieved (yes get rid of those horrible pips and bits) a tins of toms before, but it seemed like too much hassle.
Especially as Lidl do the small cartons of passata, really cheap, so the job is already done for you.

I found you had to use a little more of it because I felt you didn't get the intensity of the watered down puree.

Nowadays I use them both mixed together. In a tub, 2 heaped Tblsp puree mixed with 5 of water, then add whole small carton of passata and mix.
I will use about half of it for 2 large curries and freeze the remainder for the next curry session.

Best of both worlds and works well for me.

Reports of my demise seem rather exaggerated.
I have been on a course, away from my pc and have been getting on with my life!

I'm not travelling home this weekend due to the weather but am getting some base sauce brought to my weekend stopover instead so I don't miss a weekend with curry.

Martin (deceased) :'(

You managed to get home for the weekend then?

Curry and chip butties is a favourite in our house, for the leftovers.

Got to be fresh baked crusty bread though.

They've been made by Mick/CBM.

I thought it was funny too, and pretty accurate. ;)
