Hi Robert,  ;) welcome to the family. I bet thats handy living by an Indian store, maybe if you are friendly with the owner he may share some knowledge. Happy cooking my friend...  ;D

Just done this base and all went well. It smells nice and looks like the photo`s, but as for the rising oil does that come from further simmering once the blending has been done? Looking forward to cooking a Madras with this..

Hi gary,  ;). Looks good. What curry gravy do you recommend. As for the curry oil, I had a takeaway the weekend and no matter how hard I squeezed the bag I only got a drop or two. Other than that I fancy a crack at it.  ;D cheers

Good point dave, after all, that book would do as lot of damage to the Indian restaurant trade. Would you visit the BIR if you could cook just as good at home? Maybe thats why these parts of the site have gone cold. After all book shops and library`s are full of Ken Hom and Madhur Jaffery books.  :-\

I suppose, if you have just got home after a night out and called in to the BIR for a take out, all you would do on arriving home is tip it out on a plate and enjoy. However, if you have taken the time to prepair your ingredients and slaved over a hot stove all afternoon, then why not go the full Monty. Don`t get me wrong, I am not talking about redecorating with the red "flock" wallpaper, and the Indian music playing in the background (ah the 70`s what a time) anyway, just go for it. The only down side would be the washing up  :o

Welcome merlin11,  ;) I can recommend Onions base, as well as a lot of others on this site. How does your base compare with what you have seen so far? Enjoy your stay here in curry heaven. Let us know how you get on..  ;D ..mike
