Had another look and found 24cm genware aluminium omlette pans for ?2.39+vat from cheapchefsclothing.co.uk
Not sure how much shipping is but shouldn't be more than a fiver or so, looks like the same ones in the above link..
Hi Mike

I got the metal handled 24cm one, I don't think they had the wooden handled ones in stock at the time (and they are a little more expensive).
(oh and I bought a nice ladle from them in my order too ;))

Great price from that other place you mentioned, the downside is they seem to be charging ?6.25 per item to post. :o
So pretty good for a one off purchase, but not if you want more than one item. :-\

Martin

Orders below ?100 net of VAT will incur ?5.95 + VAT carriage charge to ZONES 1 & 2 (up to 20kgs)
6 quid each item would be ridiculous, but 6 quid for 20kg is pretty good value ;)
better than going there direct as you have to spend a min 35 quid for non-c&c card holders

cheers, Frank.  ;)

i looked for this jalpur brand too recently. none of the larger places had it or had heard of it.
i did manage to find a few boxes in some smaller shops in blackburn,(achari masala and some others, i forget which)  no garam masala though and the ones that were on the shelf were dusty and out of date! ::)

i bought some natco gm to try :-\
revolting flavour if you ask me, its going straight in the bin ;)

even 8 quid is a lot.  3.99 in most places i went to recently around blackburn and bradford ;)
a fiver is a fair price.

Ive been living in mid wales for about 15 years now, and the only thing i miss about london is the shops, in particular spice shops and take aways. :'(
havent been down for 2 n half years now, used to be every week for work.
maybe its a good thing though.....rekindled hobby + collecting tendencies = 2nd kitchen? hahaha
SO many spices now! :P

Yet another erroneously named thing in the curry world. ::)
Bay leaf ::) NO!!

My quest took me all around Bradford and Blackburn to no avail, only for me aunt to find some in Burnley ;D Whoo hooo!
Very very different in flavour. ;)

YEARS ive been wanting to go to Bradford, YEARS!

Was the same when i went to Southall 25 years ago. "is this it?" i said. :P

Lets Talk Curry / Re: Smokey flavour
January 05, 2012, 06:33 PM
Hi Spicy,
I too love that smokey flavour and believe it IS smoke!!
and NOT from burning spices or caramelising, but from the flames licking up the side of the pan and igniting splattering oil.

there is another method described here:

taken from here:
http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=-UFwsluKqM8C&printsec=frontcover#v=onepage&q&f=false

i heard of this method years ago but was used at the end of cooking the curry rather than only for dry meat. there wasn't any spices mentioned. only oil and charcoal.

Cheers Frank.  ;)

p.s. there is a lot of good info in this book, incl some different dry masala mixes. you might have to use a different browser for each link.
deleting cookies didnt work for me.

Lets Talk Curry / Re: New Year Resolutions 2012

I haven't made my own pizza'a for years, but when i did, the recipe was from a friend who's parents owned a pizza place in wangaratta, OZ :D
sorry, i dont have the recipe anymore.
i do remember being told to use lamb bones in the sauce and NEVER any herbs.
if any of you do eat shop bought pizza's, i URGE you to try the Italian Style ones from iceland.
for me, none of the other supermarkets come close! EVEN the pizza express sold in supermarkets, AND theyre only GBP1.50
also made in italy ;)
