vindaloo,

At least you got your DVD!
If it's the 'curry magic' one, i ordered in early Oct 06 and they billed my credit card with a few days. Nothing had arrived by early Jan (thats 3 months!) and it took several emails to get a refund.

So is it worth twelve quid?

KP(V)

Hi KP,

I actually got a genuine copy from the dreaded fleabay. It cost about £7.50 incl postage. TBH, I was very disappointed with it. I didn't really learn anything new from it. I can honestly say I've learnt more from this website in a few months, than any book or dvd has taught me over the years. ;)

...Would love a chicken tikka massala recipe though-just to find out if they really do put tomato soup in it!!!!!!!!

Received my Pat Chapman DVD today. Just been watching it whilst scoffing a Kris Dhillon vindaloo. Pat lobbed in some tomato soup in the CTM!! :o :o :o

Any news on the types of pans that you can recommend Andy? I'm always looking for an excuse to buy pans, knives etc! ;)

I have several types of pans etc that I like to cook with....my favorites are these  handmade iron karahi's. The downside is they have round bottoms, although I'm going to change my hob to a 5 ring hob with a wok burner so I can use round bottom pans etc.  :D ;) ;D

I aslo have a couple of thin steel woks (exactly like the ones in Pat Chapmans book) I do like these but like Andy pointed out, you do need to be careful with temperatures when in use.

Hi all,
The base was actually Darth P's 'ultimate' as this was what was in my freezer (2 bags left... ;D

I've just been Asda and bought more chicken and made more for work tomorrow! I got the tomatoes as well this time. With the gravy quite a bit thinner, it looks superb. If you could let me know what base to try next time, that would be great ;)

As it is though, it really is a very, very good curry :-* :-*

The beauty of this is you (I !) can learn it in 5 minutes and am able to cook this without any recipe in front of me! (very impressive if you  have a visitor standing in the kitchen watching). This tastes restaraunt style big time!

Hi Curry King,

I only had enough chicken for one (generous!) portion so I thought I'd give this a blast this afternoon. All I can say is..."Wow!"  TBH, I did deviate a little, I had to use fresh tomatoes as I didn't have tinned and i lobbed in the full onion ;) I also chucked in a potato :-X

As for the curry powder, I'm in the process of using up the remainder of the Pat Chapman batch I made, so i'll be trying out other versions in the near future. This turned out a little thicker than I'm used to, but I'm putting tha down to my deviations. I took a few photos whilst cooking it, but then i ate it before i could take any pictures of it on my plate!! ;D ;D ;D You should be able to click on the pictures for a larger view. This is a VERY good recipe for cooking in small (1 or 2) portions. I will definitaley be using this again  ;D I'm so happy!!!

Heating the oil

Tsp (!!) of onion & 5 fresh green chillis

Add a couple of spoons of curry base

Erm..!?

5 tsp X H Chilli, 2 tsp Pat C curry masala (powder) and ginger

Chicken and potato lobbed in

The rest of the bag of curry base goes in with the tomatoes (wrong type last night!)

A big bunch of chopped fresh dhania goes in...'mmmm' :-*

A close up!!

Lets Talk Curry / Just curious...cost?

Just been having a lot of fun reading random posts on here! Anyway, the thing that struck me was, every now & then, the price of ingredients popped up. I was just wondering how cheap/expensive it is in your part of the country for ingredients.

For example, I noticed someone say that ghee was quite dear (Newcastle I think?)

I'm in Leicester and here are a couple of examples of what we pay:

Khyber ghee 2kg ?2.25 (not too bad I think)

20 dried popadams, plain, 65 pence

Chakki Gold Elephant atta 10kg  ~?3-?4 ( i need to check this)

Star anise 200g ?1.65

Rice 10kg ~?6.75 (the pretty good stuff in a cloth sack..again, i need to check brand etc)

I'll have a quick look downstairs in the morning when I'm making a batch of base to see if there are any prices on the bags of the usual suspects i.e. chilli powder, haldi, dhania etc etc. (I'm not going down now...the girlfriend will think I'm stock-taking!!! ;D ;D)

I'm just curious as to what prices evryone else pays.
