I have in my humble opinion smashed loads of curries to perfection with the help of this site. I've even gone against all that is holy, tried hot pineapple in a dhansak and really enjoyed it ( Hawaiian pizza still belongs in the bin). I just can't find anything resembling the taste of a vindaloo that I get from any takeaways/restaurants around me, despite having tried everyones mega/final/ultimate recipes.

Lets Talk Curry / Re: Curry House in York?

Also a York resident, I agree that the Garden is great, but I also recommend York Tandoori takeaway on Lowther Street, it's  a short walk out of town, but it's also a BYO and there is a spar  a few doors down to get some lager or wine and quite cheap.

This is the next one on my list to try. Is it coconut powder or coconut milk powder I should be using?

Vindaloo / Re: Odds and Ends Vindaloo

I just made my second, and largest portion of this. I really like this vinda. I tend to lob half a dozen finger chillis in at the onion stage for good measure. Nom nom.

Made this and it's now the best one I have had. I fiddled with the recipe and blended 2 teaspoons of garlic pickle into it and its lush......

It wasn't the taste sensation that I was hoping for. All of the curry's I have made using JB's base have been infinately more tasty.

Right,

Just had round 2. It was so much tastier but still rather hot. I made up Chewies mix powder but I only had hot curry powder in the house, I couldn't get medium in the supermarket. Even with changing the ratio in the powder mix down from 2 to 1 teaspoon of curry powder in it it had quite a kick hotter than madras. This is clearly what is messing it up for for me. Either that or I bought moody kashmiri chilli powder from a charlatan on ebay.
Gonna order madras powder from the interweb for round 3, but besides that issue, it was bloody tasty.
Cheers chewie.
Nom nom.
