Lets Talk Curry / Re: A packet of base
March 22, 2016, 04:30 PM
Ok. Used one packet of this yesterday to make JBs pathia (chick pea and butternut squash version). Watered it down and used a hand jobby thing to smooth it out. Enough base for 2 curries I would say.

Result? It tasted really good - wife said it was one of the best veggy curries I'd made. However, it's the first time I've tried JBs pathia, so can't compare it with a homebase base version yet. Perhaps I need to make a known curry with the packet base, and then compare.

Overall though, very successful I think. Sorry, forgot to take any pics!

Hey Stephen! Thought we'd  frightened you off!  :)

Hope you can stay around...

Well said CH. Time to calm things down a little!

Steven obviously has a lot of experience, and I'm sure he has an lot to offer here. I think the fact that he was asked to come here by MA shows that he hasn't come here to purely to pimp his book. When I asked him if an experienced BIR type person would benefit, he said that he personally probably wouldn't buy it. Not exactly pushing his wares.

We're all big boys and can decide for ourselves whether we want to buy his book or not.

Hope you stay around Steven, and pass on some of your experience.  :)

Steven, I have to ask you a question!

Do you feel that your book would be benefit and help ones on here who have been cooking curries for quite a while and are very familiar with the BIR techniques/equipment/recipes available on this site already (the curry veterans  :) ?) Could you honestly say that your book would improve their curries?

Hello Steven. Welcome, and sounds like you have a lot of experience and can provide us with a lot of useful information, and that can only be a good thing!

Hopefully, you might learn a few things from here too.

Oh, and thanks Andy for getting him here.

Talk About Anything Other Than Curry / Re: What

Last night I tried my first recipe from the excellent "Veg Recipes of India" site - veg hakka noodles. Turned out nice and spicy. Tasting as I went along, I thought it needed a bit "extra" so some slight differences - I used garlic/ginger paste to fry, Added some extra soy sauce and rice vinegar, added some sweet chilli sauce. Also added a little water to make it a little more saucy, as it seemed a bit dry.

Tonight I shall try the saucy mushroom manchurian.

Site is here -
