Hi and welcome to the forum - you'll be sure to improve your curry cooking here!

This is indeed a tough question and a lot will depend on the individual and family circumstances. I've had to do this with my partner and child between France and the UK. We've tended to see each other every two months and have found that quite difficult.

Hi Rusty,

Welcome to the site. This really is a great place to learn/improve your curry cooking. Hope you enjoy your time here.

Ah, looks like I'm going to have to invest in a more powerful cooker for the smokey taste...

I've used both lemon juice and lemon dressing. Both work fine, though my personal preference is for lemon juice as I like the fresher taste.

My best result has come from using a mixture of kashmiri chilli power and dried finely chopped birds eye chillies. It delivers the heat without the sauce being grainy. I also like to add a little lemon juice instead of vinegar.

I've been pleased with the result - better than some takeaways that I've had, though missing a smokey kind of flavour that has been in some restaurant vindaloos.

That all looks fantastic - although very wicked placing that up just before lunchtime...

Was the paneer marinated at all before cooking?

Thanks for this, and also thanks for the book!

Just a wee question out of curiosity - does a biryani in Scotland come without a vegetable sauce to accompany the rice?

Hi all,

I'm returning to the site after a period of absence. I lost my password and have been busy with work but have now sorted everything out so now hope to be back, to learn and hopefully to contribute. Still looks a great site!

Can I ask if it makes any difference where you are in the UK - for example I'm in North East Scotland and I wonder if we should be planting a bit later than South England?

Hi SL

I don't think it would do any harm, though the actual type of chilli can be taken into account. Habanero family chilli and tabasco seeds need to be planted now (or ideally at start of Jan) as they take longer to germinate and flower. Chillis seeds from plants such as padrons, cayennes can be planted a bit later - in Feb/early March.

Hi BB1, thanks for this.

Is the lamb marinated before cooking?
