How important is the variety of onion in a base or curry?

What type do members prefer? 
Do we know?
Do we assume that our local supermarket buys the same variety week in week out or whats the cheapest that particular week at the wholesalers?

Would it make any difference to the final taste.

Hi All

Had a go at Onion Bhaji's this weekend and overall tasted prety good. The only problem i had was actually trying to keep them fixed together without them breaking up on entry to the oil. Some stayed together quite well others broke up. Any ideas out there.

 :    Having made some pretty good BIR curries using recipes from cr0. I'm now thinking how good they'll look on some authentic BIR dinner plates.

But where is there out there you can get them.

Anyone any ideas.....
