Lets Talk Curry / Best Indian York City Centre
August 14, 2014, 08:17 PM
Hi all

Going to be in York on Saturday night.  Can anyone recommend a good Indian restaraunt in the city centre?

Been to The Kings Ransom and Taj Mahal (by river), both good.  Also noticed there looks like a new one on Micklegate.

Just wondered if we're missing a hidden 'gem'.

Thanks!  Rich.

Hi all

Gone and bought a korai without remembering that I've got a conventional gas cooker with four rings.  Consequently my korai does'nt sit directly over the heat, one side of the pot is clearly hotter than the other.

Is there an attachment you can get or is it a fact of life that people in India use different cookers?

Do most folks just manage?

Would I be better off using something with a flat bottom?

Thanks!  Rich  :)

Lets Talk Curry / York Indian Restaraunts
September 09, 2013, 10:51 AM
Hi all

Does anyone remember that Indian on Micklegate in York?  I can't think of its name, or how about Spice 21?

Been to The King's Ransom and Taj Mahal (closed I think now).

There's another one, same part of town near the Lowther pub, it's called Kasmiri something.  Has anyone been, will be going to York soon for a night out and will probably want to check it out.

Lets Talk Curry / Curry recipes from famous TV chefs
September 09, 2013, 09:21 AM
Hi, I'm not sure I should mention names on here but I have a book by the two TV chefs that could do with a shave....

I've tried the Channa, South Indian Prawns, Crunchy Palak Paneer and they are excellent!!

I go out for a 'proper' curry every few weeks to the same place and compared them, I think I'm getting quite close with my own at home sometimes.

Anyone got any thoughts on these or on the other guy that normally cooks fish.

Thanks! Rick (no, not that one).

Hi all, I've just joined as I enjoy making my curries from scratch.

Just bought a cast iron karahi and am seasoning it at the moment.  I've burned in some oil and the supplier (The Asian Cookshop) says you do it 6 times.

I've noticed that when I apply the oil with a cloth it is black when I've finished although on first cleaning with a seperate cloth in hot water before seasoning it was completely clean

What is the black residue on the cloth?  Am I OK eating out of my karahi?

Many thanks!  Rick.
