The lads and I had a short tour last week and sampled a few curries.

We're all 35-40+ and like a good curry and are all from Yorkshire (to give the regional tastebud boffs a medium).

Northampton - can't remember the name of the place, but utter rubbish.

Bradford - Kashmir - downstairs part..nice basic and good stuff. Free poppadoms and dip, 6 people fed and mango lassi-ed for 38 quid...very very good food. Meals tried - madras, achiri, korma, dupiaza, Kashmiri.

Gateshead - Paprika - was worried initially as empty. Food absolutely amazing apart from samosa starter slightly undercooked. Best curry of the tour. Meals tried - dupiaza, Jal Jul Hash, madras, Kashmiri.

HI

I bought a couple of plants from our local garden centre. An Apache and a Scotch Bonnet.

Had them about 2 weeks now. The Apache has started to flower a lot, and I've been pollinating them with a paint brush, but so far I've had about 4 flower drops and no chillis start.

The Scotch Bonnet is growing, but no flowers.

I've been watering them every couple of days and once per week adding diluted tomato food.

Are things going ok? I'll add some pics

Went here the other week before seeing The Lurkers...was about 6.30, so not too busy, but there were a few couples in.
Waiters were obnoxious and crude. Wife asked if they did a veg tikka masala Asian style, madras hot and was pleased when the guy said yes. The dish was atrocious, just a few potatoes with grated garlic and tomatos? Never seen anything like it!
Complained and the guy stuck his fingers in it, licked it, and said nothing was wrong, then put it back.
I resisted the urge to knock him out and just refused to pay...what a... (moderated filth, as atrocious as the dish itself)

Hi
Going for a meal on my wife's 40th this Saturday in Bradford. Haven't been to Bradford for a curry for a few years so a bit out of touch. So far it's a choice between Akbars, Omar Khans or Saffron Desi. Any thoughts or better suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Hi Guys

Been away from UK for about 10 years until last year, so well out of touch with best restaurants nowadays. Anyhow, wife and I want to go out for a nice BiR on Friday for my birthday. Everytime I think I found a good place to go, I see bad reviews on sites etc...

Soooo, any suggestions for a nice licenced BiR near Hebden Bridge/Halifax/Sowerby Bridge etc?

TIA

Hi All

I tried CA's base/spice mix and made several of his Jalfrezi, which were really very good and "almost" BIR.

I'm a little reluctant to change what isn't broke, but with such a wealth of recipes on this site, I think I'd be foolish to stick at the first one I tried!

Does anyone have any recommendations for a base/mix/recipe that would work well together? Our favourite dishes being dopiaza, jalfrezi, madras.

On another note...Chapati...I've tried several atta and never got one that was like a BIR chapati, until yesterday. I got some Pilsbury Atta after trying many others, and this one certainly comes the nearest for a soft, light chapati. Hope that helps someone in their search!

Thanks in advance for any recommendations

Found this forum through Jims Homebrew forum. Nice find! Looking forward to trying some of the recipes.
Are there any general concencus as to the most "authentic" BIR style base? I tried the Curry Secret recipes and found them nothing like the BIR style.

thanks in advance
