My name is Rob and I come from the heart of the black country in the West Midlands.
I've been cooking indian dishes all my adult life, leant from a great indian lady who use to be one of my mom's friends, not BIR cooking though.

Mom is widely used around Brum/West Midlands, so not sure what you mean.
So much so, we always moan about not getting greetings cards with it on anymore. All seem to say Mum these days.

Now that is a new one on me.  I had always thought that "mom"  (with an "ah[r]" sound) was restricted to North America.  One can learn so much from this forum if one is willing !  Incidentally the LPD confirms what you say, and gives the British pronunciation as with short "o" as in "dog", as one might expect.  Oh, and apologies to Robbo for calling him a colonial when I should have known that he was a true Sunderlonial ...

Yep Mom with a short 'o', short for Mommy. When younger we could never understand the use of Mummy, that was a creature wrapped in bandages from horror films.
