Cooking (Madras) popadom; what to drink with a biryani.

I don't know whether this is a recent trend, but both Mrs Bari (in Bodmin) and Istanbel (in Dublin) break their (Madras) popadom into four before frying them. I tried this for the first time last night, and it was very successful -- the amller pires require only my smallest wok, and are easy to dry on folded kitchen paper. As regards "what to drink with a biryani", like most readers I have tended to think in terms of a cold fizzy beer, but recently I tried a chilled Tesco cava (a present from the former owner of our new home in Cornwall); it worked very well indeed, and I think this may well become my drink accompaniment of choice in the future!
