I have no affiliation with this lot but their curry kits are good value.

Interestingly the korma is restaurant perfect but alas the madras doesn't stand up.But I have had worse...a lot worse.I have no doubt that the answer to the curry riddle is very straight forward...Can't we just pay someone??? :-\

It's out there somewhere...

The Curry Secrets Guide looks like fair value at ?4.99 incl P&P. But are there any new ideas or is it much like already reported at this forum?

After all, any of us could probably pull together a guide and web site like that, based on ideas from this forum and various well-known books. If so, with respect, the guide wouldn't be of much interest.

But if it's based on work with yet another specific BIR, then it might be worthwhile reading.

Hi All,

I bought one of these kits about 7 or 8 months ago.  I actually spoke to the guy on the phone before I bought it and he assured me that the guide / cooking instructions were actually written by a working restaurant / take away chef. He was very helpfull and offered to answer any questions that I had before I committed to buy.

I made the base sauce and wasn't very impressed, but some bases are nothing special on their own, so I made the Madras.  In my opinion it was pretty bad (containing 3 Tbs of lemon juice for 2-3 servings) that's what it tasted of.  By the way, I don't know about anyone else here, but I have never had a Madras that even hints a taste of lemon.

I sent an email to them, as they said I should if I had any problems, saying that I thought the Madras was pretty bad and should there be so much lemon juice......... NO REPLY.  I emailed again........NO REPLY.

After reading the above post from Curryholic, maybe I should try a different recipe from the 8 curries in the booklet.

Cheers All,

Blondie

It's a pity there are so many people out there who are only interested in making a quick buck, rather than attempting to add genuine value, like the Balti Cook Book attempted to do even if it wasn't perfect.

It doesn't sound like there's any original work in the Curry Secrets Guide, let alone from a half-decent BIR. Out of interest, what are the 8 dishes for which they provide recipes?

Regards
George

Lemon in a madras is fairly common round our way, usually when they describe the curry as hot and sour with the lemon being teh souring agent.

cheers
