Gas cooker
« on: July 16, 2013, 04:17 PM »
I wondered if any of our members in the UK would have any info about manufacturers of gas cookers.

I am hoping to get one shipped down here to Perth to replace our old cookers (They are a b'stard to clean)

I did manage to find this

http://www.rotoquip.co.uk/cooker.html

They are happy to ship to OZ, but it is not exactly what I am looking for. I am looking for 6 burners on the front, 2 or 3 on the back, storage shelf on top for pans AND the storage rack for spices to sit in bain marie trays.....

Any pointers would be mucho appreciated.

Cheers

Not sure it helps you much mick, but as background info Ali from the Viceroy talks about cookers in this video;

http://youtu.be/kX2AJka89sQ

In fact he's the kind of helpful chap who would probably give you the benefit of his knowledge if you emailed him explaining your dilemma. It's a shame you can't source locally but I'm sure you exhausted that option before considering shipping something half way round the world.

Thanks Goncalo, nothing on there I'm afraid, just normal commercial cookers.....which we already have.

Cheers for the link NJ.Solid old stoves them eh?

The people at Rotoquip are being really helpful and can make any size/burners to order, so maybe they will be OK. I just thought/hoped that somebody on here would KNOW where to get the proper stuff.

Have you tried Gumtree Mick?
Its a good site for second hand restaurant cookers.

Thanks Dal Puri

This is the type of equipment we already have and it's a pain in the ar*e to keep clean.

After 8 months of trading, I know this is the thing that I want to continue doing for a while, as i enjoy it and we are doing very nicely. But, it's time to get more professional and make things easier as well. We need proper BIR kitchen cookers to go any further with our operation. Unfortunately, they are just not available in OZ.

I need to ship from UK.  8)

What about the Chinese wok burners? no good?
I know i would love one of those and they look great for keeping clean.
Another range i really like the look of is the one in Sams kitchen from Chris' videos.
A solid top with holes cut out for the burners. (again, looks easy to clean)

I started looking into wok burners because of the cleaning aspect. Grills over a gas ring must be the stupidest idea ever!  ::)
Have you thought about getting just the top made over there? e.g. buying a cooker like the one on gumtree and adding a solid top like the one in the video.

I wouldve thought it would be cheaper to get one made to spec there than to ship from the UK to OZ.  :-\
And with Asia just around the corner too...

By the way, what is the difference between commercial ranges in Australia and the UK, or anywhere else in world?

Gday Mick

I grew up with Chester cookers, Pabda from the Viceroy is spot
on with info on these traditional catering ranges, but there are plenty
of refurb places in the UK where if your lucky you can pick one up.
But not forgetting your buying a well used antique .

I remember a friend had a problem when he set up a new kitchen with an old Chester.
Something with the Gas Board and their new regs/ H&S when installing meters and supply. Cost extra to install.

The usual modern stoves that you see in my BIR videos are of two types,
1. What I call the cast solid tops, with removable spinners and open burners.
2. The Frame type, with removable grid tops and drip trays and the same open burners.
Your choice, as companies make them up to your requirements.

My restaurants have used various engineering companies in the Midlands
and some have gone cheapo refurbs.

Probably one of the best websites to get your head around is SylhetWelding, which make everything you need for your Bangladeshi BIR.
I'm not saying you should contact these Bangladeshis, but your Indian Chef should be able to communicate with them OK.

I also noticed a used cooker/frame on ebay for

Thanks Chewy

It is the frame type that I am looking for. Really appreciate the link.

I will contact them and let you know how I get on.

It really is impossible to get anything like this down here and the only option is to get it from UK......I feel a business trip coming on...... 8)

Thinking of getting one of these too.

Has anyone seen/experienced/tasted bread from one of these?

It does sound too good to be true....... ???
