Lets Talk Curry / New cash & carry in Norwich
March 15, 2016, 11:08 PM

There is a new Asian cash & carry just recently opened up in Norwich called Desh in Anglia square. Great place selling all the usual products. The only place in east Anglia that I know of that sells Ali pans and stockpots and all manner of essential BIR cookware. One thing that particularly excited me was that they are selling boneless mutton and at only

Cooking Methods / Birmingham Balti Pan
March 01, 2016, 12:11 AM
I recently bought a couple of Birminham balti pans, made out of pressed steel.  I mainly use Ali pans but these pressed steel pans gave a far better flavour to the curries.  I think I've made a major discovery here.  The curries from steel are consistently better than those made in Ali pans.

Anyone else find this to be true?

Has anyone tried any Iceland frozen curries?  I've tried a couple of varieties and they're actually very good,

There's a new selection come out, one of them called 'atomic chicken vindaloo', has anyone tried this?  What are your thoughts

Lets Talk Curry / Chicken Roshun v Garlic Chicken
December 29, 2013, 01:32 PM
Does anyone know If there is a difference between Chicken Roshney and Garlic Chichen?  I know that Roshney means garlic in A certain language (can't remember which one) and it is known under other names and spelling but is it basically the same dish?

Lets Talk Curry / Flavoured Oil
April 14, 2013, 01:56 PM
I have tried using flavoured oil or onion bhaji oils as its sometimes called and just plain veg oil and found no discernible difference to the taste in a curry.  Does anybody feel like me that its just an excuse to use up old oil rather than throw it away as the cost of cooking oils has increased dramatically over the last few years?

I've been a member for a while but not got round to posting.  Just a little about myself.  I'm married to an Indian national and travel to various parts of India on a regular basis.  I've always been interested in Indian food including BIR and enjoy trying the 'real thing' in India and comparing it to here.  Travelled to Goa a month ago and tried various vindaloo from different restaurants and each of them were different, then went to Rajhistan and tried tikka masala and Jalfeizi.  Will talk about it more on another thread.  I can cook BIR to quite a high standard and can cook most dishes from the standard menu consistently without having to refer to guidance.
