This is a chicken tikka vindaloo from CBMs selection of videos I made last Sunday with Blades chicken tikka, CAs base and CAs masala mix. I also added tbspn vinegar. Has to be one of the better vindaloos ive made though definately needs tweaking. I did a double portion and found I needed more than 400mls of gravy so the only thing I could think of was to rinse the pot out with hot water and then pour that into the curry. Worked ok. Id definately be going hotter if I made it next time, probably with chillis rather than powder. Would probably go 2 tbspns vinegar next time too.

I have no idea whether Steve is referring to my PM to him, or to something completely unrelated, but just in case it is indeed to do with my PM, I asked him if he could add links to the various things he mentioned, such as "CA's vindaloo mix" and so on, so that others could be sure of finding the same recipe. Steve has added some links at the bottom, so I can't think it was my message that led to his reply, but at least if I let others know that I did indeed send him a PM (copy below), that side of things is in the open. It looks as if Steve has also amended CAs vindaloo mix" to read "CAs masala mix", as my PM to him copied the original wording and it now reads "masala mix".

Would it be possible for you to add links so that others can rapidly find these resources without having to do a search ? I try to do this as a matter of course, because if someone does a search and then finds a page that claims to be (e.g.,) "CA's vindaloo mix", yet you used a recipe from a different page, it can lead to misunderstanding and confusion.

You may well be right, Chris, I don't know : I thought that sending a PM was more courteous than asking in public (my aim was politeness, not secrecy), but I suppose one can never predict how another member will view things. It is, unfortunately, only too easy to unwittingly cause offence on a forum such as CR0.

I must admit, I was on the chase of CA's vindaloo mix upon reading Steve's initial post but soon realised it was CA's regular mix he was referring to.
Things can be lost in the mire of information on this site as the first glimpse of a recipe or other may have an updated version a few pages further into the posting, and I have spent many hours reading through page after page sometimes, as like most of the people on here I want to get things dead right.
Having the related links in the post is without doubt a great help although it can be a bit tedious to always include them I should imagine.
As for the rights and wrongs (if this has been the case) of a pm to point this out I am sitting on the fence on this one.
All I will say is I hope you wasn't misinterpreted on this Phil as I'm sure your intentions we're good.
I have enjoyed reading your present and past posts Steve so whatever it is please don't take it to heart! :(

Now it is only a few days since I faithfully promised not to get involved in any further acrimonious debates, so I will reply to Paul's message and then leave it at that. What is done is done, and cannot be undone; it was done with the very best of intentions (to help make this forum an even better place) and if my actions have been misinterpreted then I must live with that. But I would like to say this : I did /not/ tell Steven that his post was incomplete; I did not tell him it was not good enough -- I asked, politely (and privately, so that he could choose either to agree or to ignore my request without anyone else knowing) if it would be possible for him to add links so that others could rapidly find the resources he cites without having to do a search. Now in the circles in which I move, "would it be possible for you to ..." is just about as polite as it gets [1], and is at the very opposite end of the spectrum to saying "your ... is incomplete" or "your ... is not good enough". If it can be misinterpreted to be even ruder than those last two, then all I can say is I am very very surprised. Over and out, on this topic.

Phil, I used my words to illustrate how I believe Steve could have interpreted your PM, obviously you didn't say them and I'm not saying you did.
No matter how polite you were it could and probably has been taken badly.

Although it does highlight the 'forum' format's shortcomings in trying to follow recipes, know the definitive recipe, variations on the recipe and know where to put photos of recipes that don't follow exactly the original.
Don't really know how it could be improved, just thinking aloud.

Nice one Steve! Looks good. Ive got another kilo of Blades tikka on the go and plan to try it with a few Vindaloos myself. The best one Ive tried so far is this one. A bit different. Kashmiri chilli, green cardamon powder, and lime juice (no vinegar). Will post a pic when done. Rob.
