Hi all,
Once again I turn to the forum for help. I am trying to compile a full and complete list of herbs and spices with simple descriptions of taste.
I have scoured the internet for a reliable source that contains a full list but have yet to find any that are reliable or complete.
If anyone can point me to a reliable and complete source, I would be very grateful indeed.
Thanks in advance,
Malc.

Hello Axe
I had the same problem-until I found this site
http://www.uni-graz.at/~katzer/engl/index.html (http://www.uni-graz.at/~katzer/engl/index.html)
Very useful as it gives translationsin to lots of languages.
Hope this Is whatyou were looking for.

Excellent reference, other-Phil. Also worth hunting out is J S Pruthi's most excellent "Spices and Condiments", one of just three food-related books [1] selected by Ajoy Joshi in a recent post (http://thoughtsfromajoy.wordpress.com/tag/dr-j-s-pruthi/). Now out of print, but not as hard to find as Chef Joshi suggests. There is a highly debatable section devoted to Kalunji and Kala Jeera, which seems to conflate the two, but that is the only textual error I spotted, although the page collation (of my copy, at least) leaves a little to be desired !

[1] The other two being Larousse Gastronomique and Herring

PhilUK, very useful indeed, the links on each page seem very useful too.
Phil, I think the above site will cover most, do you mind if I ask you to have a look at your book should I come up short on certain spices?
Thanks to both of you.
If anyone has any other site they think is worth a look at, please feel free to contribute to what I hope will be a valuable topic for the forum.
Thanks once again.
