Title: Green Naga off 20years ago
Post by: chewytikka on July 29, 2012, 06:31 PM
Searching for green Naga.
Just wondering if any members have seen this stuff while shopping in Asian stores.
I used to buy this back in the early Nineties, before Mr.Naga appeared.
Eventually it just seemed to vanish off the shelves around here, being replaced
by Mr.Naga and another not so good brand Nico-something.

I'd love to get my hands on this again and cost isn't important.
Fingers crossed, if I'ts still on the shelves somewhere, as I've Googled it with no joy :(
cheers Chewy

I've bought this in the past from Akrams in Southsea, Portsmouth, CT. It's the only place I've ever seen it.

Haven't been there for a while, but I'm planning a restocking trip soon so will check for it then.

Thanks Ramirez
It's just another one of those memory tastes, an itch I want to scratch.
There's so many new Chilli products out there, most of them with inflated price tags
and gimmick names. Be nice to get hold of some original stuff.

Nice one SD
Good to know I'ts still knocking about  ;)

I see The Kitchen Magic brand is (reassuringly) still out there, CT. Just found this green naga sauce they do:

http://www.indianmart.co.uk/kitchen-magic-naga-pepper-sauce-160g-p-960.html (http://www.indianmart.co.uk/kitchen-magic-naga-pepper-sauce-160g-p-960.html)

I might try some to see if it has the same taste as the minced green nagas, but as said I'll have a hunt for it in Akrams (probably next week).

Hi Mike,

What does it taste like? I mean how does it compare with the Mr, Naga red chilli? Just interested to know that's all :)

Rgds,

Bob

Hi Bob
From memory, as It's along time ago, It was just watery minced Green Naga,
as opposed to the oil of Mr.Naga and I don't even think It was pickled.

Tasted of raw Green Naga's, wouldn't eat it straight out of the jar. :'(

It's similar to the mince I make today with fresh green finger chillis.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for that, I kinda figured it would be different from the red oily stuff, it sounds interesting. If you find a supplier please let me know I would like to try this :)

Kind Regards,

Bob

I can second CT's assessment.

Whereas Mr Naga (and the even better Mr Vikki's King and Queen naga http://www.mrvikkis.co.uk/index.php?app=ecom&ns=prodshow&ref=king-naga (http://www.mrvikkis.co.uk/index.php?app=ecom&ns=prodshow&ref=king-naga) and http://www.mrvikkis.co.uk/index.php?app=ecom&ns=prodshow&ref=queen-naga (http://www.mrvikkis.co.uk/index.php?app=ecom&ns=prodshow&ref=queen-naga)) taste bloody gorgeous to the point of being addictive, a mouthful of Kitchen Magic minced green naga can only be described as tasting bloody awful (by comparison).

I've only ever used it in cooking, and if i can ever find any more I plan to keep it that way.
