Title: So, what are you drinking on this lovely hot summer's day?
Post by: 976bar on May 26, 2012, 04:45 PM
I went to my local Makro store about a week ago and picked up a case of "Super Bok", it's Portuguese and it's lovely... haven't had this since I was in Portugal about 7 years ago :)

My daughter (13) has been here as she is every Saturday so I have been drinking tea and Vimto (in separate cups/glasses of course). Tonight however I will be drinking cider in the beautiful sunshine.

Bernard 0.5% alcohol unpasteurised Czech amber beer.  Quite quaffable, but lacks the character and finish of Clausthaler Extra Herb (which is sadly out of stock, and has been for some time) and Main Thaler (which would appear to be no longer available).

There's nothing worse than waking up in the morning knowing that you are going to feel like that ALL day! :)

I love sparkling water, but usually add about a third of a fresh lemon to each glass. Must have had about 2 pints of the stuff this morning while cleaning the kitchen, and your right it has definitely got to be chilled :)

Khanh's family served something very similar at our recent "Safe Anaesthesia Worldwide" charity event, and it went down a treat (many requests for the recipe) : water, freshly squeezed lime, sugar and water (oops: and ice -- forgot that vital element).

0.5% alcohol  ???  Why would you even bother!  That ain't a beer, it's a mouthwash!   :o

Weather Forecast for Tuesday: London 22 / 13 .......... Brisbane 23 / 12
And we are whingeing about the cold at the moment  ;D

Mind it did get down to around 6 this morning with a blast of Antarctic Air, which was a bit rude considering we've been having 26 degree Indian Summer for the last few weeks.

Anyway good home brewed stout weather  8)

No choice : I can go dry and live, or drink alcohol and die -- which would you choose ?

P.S. None of Main Thaler, Clausthaler Extra Herb or Bernard deserve to be written off as "mouthwash".  Kaliber used to be complete and utter cr@p (for all I know, it may still be so), but the Germans and the Czechs have raised "alkoholfrei" to a fine art, and I would challenge anyone to identify Main Thaler as low alcohol in a blind tasting.

Quite a dilemma!  Life without proper beer; is it worth living?  :P  Fruit juice, perhaps?  ;)

But, in terms of alcohol content, it more resembles mouth wash than proper beer.

You're on!  Give me 5 pints of each and I'll nail it every time!  ;D

Incidentally, I did Bernard a disjustice when I described it as lacking the character and finish of the other two; what I had failed to appreciate is that, not being a lager/Pilsner, it should not be served as deeply chilled as one would serve those : served at room temperature, both the character and the finish are markedly improved, although of course its thirst-quenching effect is less obvious.
