I added 1 and a half teaspoons of mix powder (CA) so i could get that dry effect, this dish was absolutely superb what a wonderful taste.
This recipe is so simple but wow what a great taste.

Great effort. That looks perfect to me.

I agree with you, Saag Bhaji is such a delicious and relatively simple dish to make. Been making it a lot myself since the Zaal lessons too.

Excellent stuff, Unclefrank. Looks like I'm going to try adding the mix powder to my recipe next time for sure.

It never ceases to amaze me how a combination of a few simple ingredients can produce such tasty results.

A few briquettes of frozen spinach, defrosted and heated up? No thanks...

Add garlic, onion, salt, turmeric, and a little mix powder, and bang!

Plain cooked lentils? Not for me, thanks all the same.

Add salt and a garlic tarka, and bang!

Sheer genius...

What frozen saag did you use?

I bought a bag of ASDA brand frozen chopped spinach leaves.
Really "CRAP" the briquettes once defrosted, were just tiny bits, not chopped, more like blitzed to death in a processor.

Bag assigned to the bin. :-\

Take your cooking up a level and use fresh, watch how its done here:-

Great vid, Chewy - many thanks for that. While there's no doubting that fresh is best, I live miles from the shops and the sheer convenience of being able to make this dish whenever you feel like it makes the frozen option a plus for me.

Not sure what frozen spinach Unclefrank is using, but the Tesco brand is bloody good quality, and as you can see in the pic below is whole leaf, not chopped into bits. Good value at 1.30p for a kilo, too (currently on offer for a quid).

I used Farmfoods frozen spinach leaves 1 GBP for 750g
Will try the Tesco frozen spinach in a few days, already done my curry shopping for this week.
