Title: kashmiri chilly powder vs normal chilly powder. Any real difference??
Post by: Derek Dansak on November 16, 2011, 01:58 PM
I never have found real kashmiri chilly powder, but know its meant to taste sweeter and more bir.
Does it actually lead to a closer bir taste than normal chilly powder?

cheers

Hi Derek,

It all depends on what other types of chili powder you are comparing it to. I find it milder than a lot of chili powders, but a greater depth of flavour. However, the deep red colour enhances the colour of a dish more, possibly making it look a bit more like BIR.

Hope this helps :)

try looking for a box rather than a plastic packet :)

It certainly has a gorgeous red colour, and I use it primarily for that, but in terms of heat I don't find it far off Deggi Mirch.
