Title: Lamb Nihari
Post by: chewytikka on November 08, 2011, 09:56 PM
Hi All
Anybody got any experience with  Lamb Nihari

I had it the other day as part of the Eed celebrations at a mates,
it was a completely new flavour to me and was more than delicious.

I quizzed for the recipe, but got side tracked, with all other lovely grub.

Quite a few google hits, Chewy.

Here is one but it looks like a lengthy prep and cooking:

Yes, very definitely one of my favourites, but palls if you eat it too frequently.  Easy to make, and there is an MDH pre-packed Nihari masala that will take you at least 85% of the way there ..

Great, MDH to the rescue, off to the store tomorrow, exciting, I'm going to have fun

Mr.Google also claims its a age old breakfast curry, well you never stop learning. ;)

[T]here is an MDH pre-packed Nihari masala [...]
Sorry, my error : there is a Shan pre-packed Nihari masala; I don't know whether MDH also do one.

Hi Phil
SHAN Nihari is what I used and it goes well with MDH Kashmiri Mirch both very good blends.
Made a prototype curry, using both last night with excellent results

Looks good, CT !  I was trying to remember where I had first discovered Nihari, and I am reasonably sure that it was Lahore 1 in the Commercial Road, but on asking Khanh she said that she could not remember eating it there.  On the other hand, she can't really remember eating it at all, so her failing to associate it with the Lahore is not to be taken as a basis for ruling it out ...

Hi 976bar
New to me, hard to describe other than very savoury, pungent, spicy and unique.
Which is no wonder, as its a complicated spice mix. I would say its about
as distinct in flavouring as the first time you tasted a good Tandoori.

Hi Barry
Work in progress ;)
