Title: Frozen Ginger&Garlic.
Post by: chewytikka on October 10, 2011, 11:18 AM
Hi all
Looking for some frozen Saag in ASDA, came across TAJ brand frozen Ginger&Garlic.
With the prices of everything being hiked up, it seems weekly
this was a pleasent suprise at 97p a packet.
This is an excellent product and a great standby.
cheers Chewy

Hi Chewy,
I've been using similar stuff by different manufacturers for some time,
I'm assuming it's similar in that there are no added ingredients?
It is so easy taking one block of each, thawing and mixing, instant garlic/ginger paste.
Cheers,
Mick

Hi Mick
Yep, 100% pure, nothing added.
Really handy, quick and cheap.
I usually, drain the water, once thawed
and add salt and veg oil to preserve it.
I'm definitely going to try some other TAJ products
cheers Chewy

Cheers guys.  At those prices, with nothing added, i've just got to find a home in my freezer for a couple of bags of each. ;D.  Instant garlic/ginger paste without any hastle - but not in the base of course :o

FYI... Found at ASDA today, a new addition to the range. Pre-mixed garlic and ginger paste. 97p for 400g. Handy!

Does it say what ratio - Ginger : Garlic?

I have been using these for some time as well, when I use it I find the volumes I need to use are greater than a gg paste from a jar. Anyone else find the same thing?

Sorry Ruby, I missed this until now. No, there is nothing to indicate the ratio, it just says on the back of the packet "100% ginger and garlic paste". I would assume it's 50/50 but no evidence to back that up.

I used frozen garlic ginger in my usual tikka marinade
It ruined it
The whole aroma was wrong
In fact the first batch I threw away, because I thought something was bad
I use frozen gg in frying and it's fine, but fresh is way better for marinades
