Panicking as one does when CR0 goes off the air, I realised that most of us have no way of re-establishing contact with each other in the event of CR0 disappearing for ever.  Would there be any interest in exchanging e-mail addresses via PM ?

possibly someone put together a list of people who would like to have their email address distributed then that person could send the completed list to everyone on the list....or am I just complicating things?

I guess it's a question for Admin really, but could you explain what went wrong please?

Is it a case of lack of funding for the website or some other reason?

I'm sure if it is a case of lack of funding then I think we all realise that a small contribution from everyone concerned would more than help to keep this oxygen tank afloat!! :)

Please advise.......

Seems a sensible approach to me, and as I proposed it, I suppose I also ought to volunteer to co-ordinate things.  One suggestion : we circulate the list only to those with a valid track record of postings, not to someone who has just joined with zero or one posts to his/her name (so as to minimise the risk of the list falling into inappropriate hands).

Completely agree - felt the same thing. A contact email for Stew wouldn't go amiss as well. I tried  a 'whois'  lookup, but registrant details are hidden. Happy to exchange emails.

Hi Ramirez,

I totally agree. I have kinda sent Stew a message on this thread asking him what went wrong as I don't really know how to contact him otherwise. If it's a case of funding then i suggested that we all make a small contribution which would more than keep this site going.... If it was a technical hitch then ok, but it does beg the question and god forbid, what if something ever happened to Stew? All this hard work by so many over the years would be lost.......

On another note, Phil, I also totally agree with you about distributing an e-mail list of those who regularly post to this forum so if/should this website ever collapse through one reason or another, hopefully we as a team would be able to resurrect it to some degree.

Let me know what you all think on this please....

That is a worrying thought and one I have had also. To lose all of this would be awful. To some extent, amongst other things, it comes back to the lack of a moderation team, I think. People that can escalate things when something goes wrong.

Let's see what Stew says. I think quite a few would be happy to chip in if money is an issue.

I agree, if there is a cost involved im sure a few quid each for a years membership would more than cover any costs, and there would be enough of us that would be happy to pay.Lets face it peeps, the info gained from this site is fantastic, and worth a few squids.

Also, a team should be set up.I didnt realise it was all one mans work.Well done Stew, but lets get a few involved.(I would be happy to help where needed)

Phew ;D

I have just realised how much i have took this site for granted. Shame on me.

We really do need to do an e-mail swap, even just for the simple reason that we all share the same passion for BIR food.

Great to have you back CRO, I for one will never take you for granted again :-*

hi guys something like this happened in the early days so another link was set up to carry on the chatting, i didn't get involved in that as i was relatively new so had more than enough printouts to keep me going.

i am happy to exchange e-mail addresses. maybe there is another way?

Not meaning to have a go btw

Facebook page (group) for active peeps ?

Could be worth consideration as a second meeting place,
we may need to think about this a little to work out the finer details.

active members only etc any thoughts on this ?

Umm our cover would be blown for starters ! this would only be for the brave :-)

I think the email idea is a must.

What is it with everyone on this site and anonymity? Is everyone on this site an ex convict with something to hide or be ashamed about?..........

well a thread some time ago went along the lines off, if we are sneeking a peek the chefs secrets maybe they would not entertain us if they know we are posting out finding on here. That was the basics of it anyway and included pictures of us lot, but dont tell anyone please...

My only thought in suggesting we might restrict the list to those with a proven track record of on-topic posting is that some members might (reasonably, IMHO) not want their e-mail addresses disclosed to a spammer, and the only way we can be sure that someone is not a spammer is if they have actually contributed to on-topic discussions.  But the decision is everyone's, so it is up to all to decide.

Not meaning to have a go btw
Fully understood : this is meant to be a constructive suggestion, and all replies will be treated in the same light.

O M G.   How close was that????    I agree with all comments made here.  This site is the most authoritative on BIR cooking on the web  This has been made possible by the contribution of many members past and present over the years.  To not protect this knowledge base would be absolutely criminal.  I cannot begin to describe my feelings when i saw that "account suspended" screen.  I think all who have spent some time here are more than willing to contribute to ensure the site continues.  Yes, lets circulate our e-mail addresses just as a safeguard.  I am more than happy to entrust my e-mail address to an established member of this site. And am happy to be involved in whatever it takes to ensure this site continues for many years to come.

Welcome back and God bless CRO.  Long may you continue

Great to see the site up and running again.
Running a bit slow maybe?

If money is an issue with this great site I would be more than happy to make a voluntary donation to help with the upkeep.

I must stress the voluntary part though, please don't make it subscription based, like elsewhere.

Martin

Any news from Stew on what the problem was? Not sure about anyone else, but I am getting a lot of 505 errors - sometimes have to retry 3 - 4 times before a getting a successful response.

I've jumped back from Google Chrome as it keeps losing connection with CR0 to Firefox. It's slower than Google Chrome but it does keep the connection.

Ive had to upgrade the forum, appears the previous release was unstable and causing high CPU load meaning the host susepended me.

Done it now so hopefully CPU usage should calm down.
Next i need to upgrade this theme to be SMF 2.0 compatible but im off camping now for the weekend so you'll have to live with it until Monday team.  There may be some weird stuff/layouts etc

Ive backed up the database so i have the entire forum as is incase something happens again.

My email is curryrecipesonline@gmail.com if if goes again.

All the best
Stew

Nice one Stew - much appreciated!  :D I'm sure everyone appreciates your efforts. Thanks for the email address. Hopefully with the upgrade we shouldn't need to use it.  ;D

I'm relieved to hear that nothing has been lost and that the temporary suspension was little more than a technical glitch.

Phil - I think your email exchange suggestion idea is a good idea. You have my email address. Please add it to your list for potential distribution to the rest of a trusted group.

Just to let you all know that I have not forgotten about the e-mail address list, but unfortunately the PM system seems screwed since the upgrade, so I have no way of getting in touch with people individually until the PM system is restored.  The threading also seems screwed in places, sadly.
