Hi folks
Can someone do a search for an item on Amazon UK?
The item is '27cm (10.5") Carbon Steel Wok' the ?3.27 one.
When you find it in the search, can you click on it and see if the link to the woks page works.
I keep getting the message-
Looking for something?
We're sorry. The Web address you entered is not a functioning page on our site.
Go to Amazon.co.uk's Home Page
I'm having an argument with Amazon customer services at the moment about the broken link and they are saying it must be a problem with my server/browser etc., nothing wrong their end.
So if anyone else can have a look I'd be grateful.
Cheers
Martin

Hi

http://www.amazon.co.uk/27cm-10-5-Carbon-Steel-Wok/dp/B000P5Q42I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen&qid=1302509144&sr=8-1 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/27cm-10-5-Carbon-Steel-Wok/dp/B000P5Q42I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen&qid=1302509144&sr=8-1)

Definitely NOT working,
Redirect them to this page

Agreed : tell them that the defective link points to :
http://www.amazon.co.uk/27cm-10-5-Carbon-Steel-Wok/dp/B000P5Q42I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen&qid=1302511831&sr=8-1 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/27cm-10-5-Carbon-Steel-Wok/dp/B000P5Q42I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen&qid=1302511831&sr=8-1)
However, you may not want to waste too much energy pursuing this, since the one and only review reads "This is the worst wok I ever bought. The coating is peeling off after seasoning the wok. Although I have applied oil (as mentioned in the instructions) rust is all over. So....simply I can't use it. I couldn't return it as I used it after the returning period. I was a Amazon customer for more than 4 years and I know the most of products are good in condition. But in this case I was thoroughly disappointed for spending 9 pounds on this."

@martinvic
Sorry to slightly hijack your thread...
@Unclefrank
Was thinking about getting one of those Cast Iron Karahi's myself (http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php?topic=5685.0 (http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php?topic=5685.0)).
Please could you tell me what you think of the size you have (oo-err) 13" - I was wondering if that may be a little large for cooking curry in?
Some of the recent other threads cite pan sizes of somewhere around (approx) 8" to 10" (20cm to 24cm) as around the most appropriate?
Thanks for any thoughts.

13" pan is enough to make a curry for 6-8 people because i make curries for alot of my friends and neighbours but make sure you have a wok ring i have one of these for the time being http://www.ecook.co.uk/i/products/Chinese-Woks-Asian-Oriental/Woks/tn_wok-ring.jpg (http://www.ecook.co.uk/i/products/Chinese-Woks-Asian-Oriental/Woks/tn_wok-ring.jpg)
And one of these
http://products.makro.co.uk/epages/Makro.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/Makro/Products/157399 (http://products.makro.co.uk/epages/Makro.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/Makro/Products/157399)
I'm very pleased with the wok and service of Spices of India has for the wok size its really not that big really, the seasoning of the wok is the time consuming thing took me about 2 hours has i have stated before in another thread make sure you open all your windows it gives off some smoke because of the coating it has on it, also because of it being cast iron your curries will cook a little quicker and the "scrape back" you get on the side of the pan is developed quicker as well.
Already made a Balti Madras and a bog standard Balti absolutely wonderful.
Get one its well worth that little bit of effort.
Hope that helps, any more questions please feel free.

Hi Unclefrank
Many thanks!
Looks like they will be perfect for use in the boiling ring (http://www.gasproducts.co.uk/acatalog/Large_Tripod_Gas_Boiling_Ring.html (http://www.gasproducts.co.uk/acatalog/Large_Tripod_Gas_Boiling_Ring.html))
All the best

Thanks folks, it isn't my computer then. ;)
Phil, how did you get to that review for the item?
I can't even get that, although the review does seem a little wrong with, 'coating peeling off', '9 pounds' etc..
What coating?
It isn't a non-stick pan, like all carbon steel woks it needs proper cleaning then seasoning/oiling to stop it rusting.
Cheers
Martin

Phil, how did you get to that review for the item?
Over 35 years in I.T :)
1) Throw your search string into Amazon.Co.Uk
2) Click on the result of interest
3) From the location bar, copy the element following "/dp/", i.e. "B000P5Q42I"
4) Throw that string into Google
5) Click on the review titled "Amazon.co.uk: Sha An "Thush J"'s review of 27cm (10.5") Carbon ..."
Incidentally, a second commentator echoed your own feelings (and mine); he wrote :
I've used these untreated carbon steel woks before and they are much better than non-stick varieties providing that you look after them. My tips are:
1) Season it before first use (forms a non-stick barrier); 2) Straight after serving wash it cold water without any detergent and dry thoroughly with kitchen towels (retains most of the barrier and helps it to build up); 3) Wipe the inside with a kitchen towel damped with vegetable oil before storing away (keeps the rust off).
Hope it helps.
