Title: Ready made ginger & garlic paste?
Post by: deckio007 on March 18, 2011, 06:58 PM
What's anyone thoughts and the ginger paste that's in a jar and garlic paste in tubes that can be found in supermarkets?

Is it a big no no and best to stick with fresh and paste your self? I'm probably thinking yes but thinking about saving time.

You will definitely get better results from homemade puree, but there is nothing wrong with using pre-made purees in jars. I would say that it's probably better to stick to purees you find in asian shops or asian sections of supermarkets (e.g. Natco, Shan, Rajah, etc.).

Go to the freezer section in a Asian supermarket and you will probably
find bags of both G&G cubed, no additives and very cheap.

cheers

...and very good stuff it is too. It mixes well together and I think it is as good as fresh.

I'm sure BIRs must use ready made pastes - would they really have time to peel and puree all the garlic cloves they need for each night's trade?
