Title: Need to defrost curry base quick!
Post by: deckio007 on March 18, 2011, 06:34 PM
Is it safe to defrost curry base by putting the zip freezer bag into some warm water to help the defrost speed up?

Thanks

Can think of no reason why not.  Personally I would place it in a Pyrex casserole dish with lid and put it in the microwave oven at 10% for as long as it needed, or 20% if I were really desperate.

Hi Phil

Wish i bought a microwave now as we only ever used it to pre cook jacket potato for the oven so didnt bother as we now whack them straight in for an hour haha. No ready meals in my house! No microwave popcorn either  ???

Ill just try running the hot tap and let it sit in a pot for a bit and see how that works.

Cheers

I would just put the contents of the freezer bag directly into a saucepan and let it melt.

Would this not impart a certain burned plastic taste to the finished dish?

Yes but you can disguise this by leaving a blue elastaplast in plain site near the serving dishes ;)
I think you speed the process by adding a little boiled water to the pan and then reduce it off later.
