Title: Onions,,,How important
Post by: Chilli on March 06, 2011, 05:56 PM
Hi guys/gals

How important is the variety of onion in a base or curry?

What type do members prefer?
Do we know?
Do we assume that our local supermarket buys the same variety week in week out or whats the cheapest that particular week at the wholesalers?

Would it make any difference to the final taste.

Regards Chilli

My own view would be that, having used both Spanish and English onions in bases I can't tell the difference. I prefer the larger Spanish ones simply because they take less peeling and are therefore quicker to prepare in bulk.
