Sultan's palace and Mayur are pretty good and a bit posher than the average (and reasonably inexpensive too from memory) . If you're after the average place with a vindaloo and a naan there're hundreds.

There is plenty around last one i went to was http://www.maharajaliverpool.co.uk/ (http://www.maharajaliverpool.co.uk/) was good.

I've been to Sultan's Palace a couple of times in the last year. Funny enough it was the place most favoured by my Indian IT contractor buddies in Liverpool.
Personally I thought it was just ok but I can't recommend anywhere else as I don't get out much due to having no babysitter.
Cheers,

artistpaul,
no upto date knowledge of BIR in Liverpool. it's not a BIR mecca for me though - more for Chinese and Italian.
the best guy i think retired a few years ago (had place on road to aigbirth).
billycat's place in Heswall is top notch but across the water.

You are right Jerry, Liverpool is no mecca for BIR. I think it's partly due to the lack of Asians living here compared to cities like Manchester, Leeds, the Midlands etc.
I really wish we had a few more Asian shops in Liverpool as I'm sick of paying supermarket prices for onions, garlic, ginger, fresh coriander, peppers and chillis.
I'm not sure whether it would be cheaper to drive to Manchester to get stocked up.

Hi Paul
How many Asian shops dp you actually want in liverpool i could name 10 in the south of liverpool quite easily lolol

Hi Mark,
I live in the north - Crosby. I know about Mattas on Bold Street city centre but nowhere else. I've heard there is somewhere on Smithdown road but never ventured up there.
I used to live in Manchester - they seemed to be on every street corner in certain areas.

WH Lung down on the docks, it's huge and sells everything you could want (cheap too)

I remember going in there some time ago, having a look round, my son is looking in the freezers and says to me "Dad, do they really eat pigs uterus?" I'm afraid they do boy..........
-
Yes some horrible stuff in Mr Lungs :o
I usually buy my spices from there but they don't have much fresh stuff like I listed before.

PaulP,
this is the place i get a lot of my indian supplies. it's Chinese but has plenty of the basics and also an indian section. there is undercover car park at the side.
Hondo Trading Co, 5-11 Upper Duke Street, Liverpool, L1 9DU
Lungs is also well worth a trip.

Many thanks Jerry.
I was born and grew up in Liverpool but spent 30 years living away and only returned "home" 3 years ago. As such I have lost my bearings a bit!

There's the Chung Wah too, up by Chinatown. Can't remember the road, they do lots of fresh stuff if I remember correctly.

PaulP,
can understand completely - lived in liverpool myself before warrington. would love to move back - just need the motorway extending past the rocket.

I lived in Liverpool for 3 years and tried a number of the places, the best food I had there was in the UnI restaurant on Renshaw street. Really old school place, I heard it had the same chef for about 30 years, showed in the food it was the old style BIR food we all long for!

I visited the Sultans Palace and was not really impressed. Could have been an off-day though!
