Title: Evening all from Romford
Post by: Eternalian on October 12, 2010, 04:41 PM
Hi my name is Ian and I live in Romford Essex and I, like the rest of you, am a lover of good Indian ?nosh?.

My attempts to create even a vaguely similar effort to a good take away have always ended in abject failure so to find a site with so much good advice and instruction is a real joy.

Like a number of people on this site I have purchased the (in)famous ?Undercover Curry? publication and am confused by the varying opinions voiced.  I guess the book is a bit like Marmite, you either love or hate it.  I must agree with the comments regarding the ?Curry Spoon? method of measurement as being rather vague though.

Anyway I am looking forward to reading the lively and informative debates that this site generates and hope to contribute from time to time

Hi Ian and welcome to cr0.

I agree with regards to the "Undercover Curry" book.  Just reading some of the account of it on here has put me off buying it really.  It does seem a little vague in it's recipes.

I think you will get much closer to what you looking for from the recipes on here.

Just bare in mind, thar regional differences do play their part quite significantly with some of the published recipes.  So with you being from Essex, trying to replicate a recipe provided by one of our Scottish members, may differ somewhat to what you know as BIR food.  With that said, they still should produce excellent results, and you may even prefer them to your usual.

All the best mate, and happy cooking.

Ray :)

P.S, Does everyone from Essex enter the X Factor lol ;D ;D :P

Funny you should mention that about X Factor but my daughter-in-law went along for this seasons auditions along with thousands of others.  She didn't get anywhere.  Said it was a stitch up, but then again she would.

Thanks for your speedy and friendly welcome.

Hi Ian,

Yeah my oldest and his mate applied a couple of years ago but they didn't make it past the second round.  Cowell wanted to put them through but Cheryl, Danni and that little annoying leprechaun, (you know, the one who brought back Wagner!!!!) said no.....the fekkers!

Ray :)
