In my town an Indian restaurant opened earlier this year only for it to close. I am curious how the recession has affected the Indian restaurant rate in other parts of the country. Have any Indian restaurants in your area closed.
if price of onions is a barometer then the answer is very easy to predict.
none closed in warrington although a start-up has gone before opening. my spice shop though alas i think has gone.
i suspect that it might be the chinese's that are struggling more at the mo as i feel this is something u can do without coupled with several buffet places which are far more attractive.
They're opening up all over the place in Tasmania.
.
I see a lot of new 'eat all you like' type establishments both Chinese and Indian opening, plus they seem to be thriving in this area but these must have a negative effect on the BIR/TA business >:(
Rob.
All the immediate BIR's round me are struggling. But based on my recent visits to try them all out, I don't think it's so much recession more over poor fare.
Generally, I notice those restaurants that maintain their food quality and menu's properly, seem to maintain a steady trade. It's when they start cutting corners that things go down hill.
Fleet is a small town but there are about 7 Indian restaurants on the high street. A crap one went a while ago only to be replaced by another a few weeks later. The good ones seem to be doing a roaring trade.
If only there was a half decent fish and chip shop the area would be complete.

Slightly off-topic I know, but have you tried Ho's Fish Bar (162 Aldershot Rd, Fleet GU528JT), Chris? Heard a couple of people say it's pretty good.
It's like any other area of business that during tough times the best establishments (or cheapest) will survive.
Not to sure though we do seem to be getting menu's posted through the door every week and the prices have gone up a fair bit in the last year.
