Hello all, I'm going to have a go at making a curry base then curry soon and was wondering if there is a website where I can order a 'kit' to get all the spices I need.
I live in rural Somerset and my choice of asian shops is pretty limited to say the least. Also a good curry base recommendation which is fairly easy for my first attempt would be handy too.
I've been making currys for years but after reading through this site I realise I've got to up my game!!! ;D
Cheers,
H.

Hi
Welcome to the forum.
I buy most of my stuff online at this shop, they do free delivery if you spend over ?30, otherwise it is ?5 ish for next day delivery. A fiver does sound expensive if you only need a couple of packets of spice, but if you order a massive bag of rice and some jars of pastes then its really good value!

There are many great bases on the site, some of my personal favourites are CA's, Razors and Admins.
As has been pointed out recently, try to make everything exactly as the original poster specifies for a while when you first start to make the recipes.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Thanks Solarsplace that site looks just what I'm after. Going out now for a...yes a curry but will take a proper look and place an order when I get back.
Glad I found this site, looks like some great recipes here. Could be putting on a few pounds over the next month or two.
Cheers,
H.

Hi hcoool
Do you have a Tescos or suchlike near hand? I buy my spices from an Asian grocer but I notice that the larger branches of Tesco are doing packets of spices now and they have a good enough range for the essentials such as turmeric, coriander, cumin, chilli powder, curry powder (yes curry powder) etc.
I think the recommendations for bases you have received so far are spot on - I like the Bruce Edwards (2008) base - simply and will get you producing good curries quickly.

OK thanks everyone, I'll be placing an order tonight from Solars place, soon spend ?30 for the free delivery.
Redhotvindy - Yeah I'm not far from Street, whereabouts is that shop?

Hi H
Not sure where I got 'Street' from - doooh !!!!
Its actually in Yeovil - if you park in big Tesco's and walk down towards 'Denhams' (I think thats what its called) its just there - we were visiting the outlaws and went on a round robin tour of Somerset so hence got muddled up with 'Street'
Cheers M

Ok thanks for that though I should be pretty sorted now, spent ?40 at spicesofindia which should arrive midweek. Looking forward to making a 'proper' curry next weekend.

Good luck with your cooking hcoool and look forward to you posting your results, there's a good vibe about this site at the moment.

Thanks Stephen, I'll let you know how it goes. Fairly confident with the right ingredients and the recipes on here that it'll be good.
Whether or not it'll be as good as one from the takeaway I use (which is what I've promised the missus) we shall see. ;D
Now thinking of buying a tandoor oven but the 300 quid price tag is making me hesitate along with the fact it's out of stock at the moment.
Cheers,
H.
