Title: CA's chicken madras with colouring
Post by: jamieb728 on July 07, 2010, 05:53 PM
Hi

Well i said i'd never put food colouring in my food because it didn't add anything to the flavour, but the BIR i use always have a dark look to most of there hotter curries so i thought i would add some to see what the results were and although it's not as dark as the BIR ( i only had red ) it did look good and tasted better than it looked  ;D

And there was even enough left over for a portion tomorrow  ;D

Absolutely beautiful looking curry! - good job.

I would not question the curry in the last picture by looks if it turned up in a takeaway carton!

Making me crave one now :(

Hi solar

I said that to my missus,  the cartons are 10 for a pound from poundland funny enough, they are great for base sauce gets you the right portion size every time, if there is 1 nearby would recommend every 1 going down there and stocking up ;D

I'll have to try that Jamie, I recently bought the old fashioned Foil cartons and cardboard tops, but would believe the plastic ones would probably keep the food fresher more longer.. :)

Hi bar

I'd say that they do because of the lid fitting tighter than the foil trays and they are easier to re-use.
Well the extra portion has gone and its true what they say tastes even better the day after ;D

I use the food containers from ASDA the ones with the letters G and Q on them ?1 for six.
As for a darker coloured madras  i used red onions instead of brown/white onions and the colour came out quite dark used the base as normal but when the recipe asks for 1 medium onion finely chopped (stage 3) i used the red onion.
