Interesting video. I haven't seen that one before.
Pretty standard base recipe. The only thing there I haven't seen before is the addition of the oil, spices and toms AFTER the vegetables are blended. I wonder how/if that makes any difference.
Good stuff. I still wish we had a recipe for a restaurant-size base. I've always been curious if base recipes like this one scale down well for "home" use. I'd much prefer to get the full size recipe and either scale it myself, or go buy an industrial size pot!

It's from "The Balti Kitchen" video (1993)
I previously posted the accompanying recipe sheet here, if anyone is interested: http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php?topic=3298.msg29747#msg29747 (http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php?topic=3298.msg29747#msg29747)

CA - funny I have never seen that post.
Has anyone tried these recipes? They seem a little basic to me.
But being from 1993, maybe its what's some members are looking for.

The referenced recipe sheet/card includes the following Ray (in accordance with the dishes on the video):
- "Base Sauce" (or "curry base", "base gravy", "gravy", or "garabi", etc, for the pedantic "purists"...but THEY call it "base sauce" ;))
- Precooked chicken
- Balti Chicken
- Pilau Rice
- Chicken Tikka
- Naan Bread (they call it "Nan" but I prefer "naan" ;)
- Chicken Tikka Masala

Yes, I have the video and I've tried all of the recipes (a loooooong time ago.....around 1993, I'd say! :P). I found them all pretty mediocre. Not that there is much wrong with the recipes being "a little basic", of course. They just didn't do much for me (but it could be my technique at fault, of course....)
