Only recently joined the forum, and after lots of reading,I decided to make my debut using SnS's base and Madras recipies,as it appeared a tad more idiot proof than some of the others ;D
I misread the ingredients list, and therefore started with only one carrot, and considerably less than 20 grams of coriander stalks...I used the stems of an entire bundle of coriander, but even they barely moved the scales :o
However,I followed the instructions dutifully, and to my immense surprise,it turned out really well.I reckon for looks, aroma and taste I would give it 8 out of 10 compared to the real thing.
I'm looking forward now to a bit more fact finding on these forums and a few tweaks to produce even better curries.I've been ordered by the missus to produce a Korma by this evening :o...she wouldn't eat the madras, but she was impressed by the smell 8)
So thanks to SnS for your recipies, off now to find something a bit milder ;)

Well done BaggyRay,
Congratulations on your first attempt. How amazed were you with your results? I know how smug I felt after doing my first decent (BIR Style) curry.
Be warned though, failure can easily follow success :o
Consistency is key now. My advice would be, adapt a little at a time, make a note of your changes so you can rule out the variables, and most of all, stick with it.
Well done again,
Ray

Nice one, there's nothing worse than spending time to make sure you do something right to only fail at the finish.
The quest starts here. ;)

Hi
Baggray, welcome. Somethings get lost in translation. Coriander stalks means stalks of Coriander. Yes sounds obvious but is used as a numerate measure, because Coriander is cropt at a prity constant size before it flowers and goes to seed.

Thanks for the coriander tip,as you say,it's obvious once you know...lateral thinking has never been one of my good points ;D

baggyray,
i don't bother to weigh the coriander stalk anymore - i love it in base and just tend to chuck in what i've got (i chop the leaf and freeze it and then use it from frozen - no good as garnish but fine in the curry frying).
don't forget just ask when u get stuck,
all the best
