It depends what else went in and what you did with it. If you just boiled up some Onion and Tomato then I can see why it would be very bland. I start most of my bases with 1 large onion and a tin of chopped tomatoes but I fry the onion with some whole spices then add the chopped tomatoes and reduce it all down for about 30 minutes. The results are always very flavoursome.

Hi all.
As far as the base sauce is concerned i always thought it turned out rather bland, but had flavours ready to come out in the final cook. And in making the curry of whatever is on your menu by adding the final ingredients brought out all the flavours we are seeking.
Would others have the same opinion?? :)

Sad thing is Toms need to be cooked properly. If you are using them in a salad then you can just about add anything to them fresh and they will say thankyou!
Cook them and its a different matter, they must be cooked for one thing.
Q. What type of tomatoes did you use? Italian/European/Crushed/ Semi crushed/Whole?
It makes a big, big difference frankly.

Yes i always spend no more than 50p on tomatoes!
i didnt think it would make much difference to flavour overall flavour.
